[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Why aren't there many clean options for songs on Spotify? Even if you don't have a "clean on" button, would be great if we could easily fine clean versions ourselves to manually create clean playlists. So frustrating that only the Explicit versions are on here for so many songs

Contacted spotify yesterday after highlighting the fact that I've just paid for "family  plan" and can't find anywhere to turn off explicit songs. We've been with google play, and they have this option  under their software which had been great, gutted to say it as preferred spotify but we really need to make sure kids aren't listening to foul language based songs  so. Until spotify make their "family plan" family proof, then we are forced to stick with google play;( Shane

I'm sure it will be difficult for Daniel Ek to explain to the big newspapers why they have declined to release this feature that allows parents to protect their children from explicit songs and so many years.

All it takes is to find a journalist that is keen on protecting children on the era of digital media.

I just don't get how something so simple hasn't been implemented, Google
play music has been doing this for ages.
I'm sort of making a blunt point that when paying for a "family plan" you
should get family related options and that should be top of the list, just
a shame really

Spotify used to be the only game in town - not any more. In just 1 year Apple Music has already gained 50% of Spotify's subscriber numbers. The fact is that streaming music services are now almost a commodity, all have access to the same huge music library. The way they will differentiate is through simple things such as this - parental controls. Ditch Spotify and move to Apple Music, they have it sorted.

Also, why can't I access the clean version of an album or release on iOS? I can only access it through desktop.

Snapchat is being hit with a class action for not providing warning and protection for minors... https://www.engadget.com/2016/07/08/snapchat-class-action-sexually-explicit-discover/

I really want to use Spotify.  However, until they allow us to A) block music with explicit lyrics and B) block album covers being displayed...I will pass.  Remember Spotify - - you can have Capitalism + Morals.  Just ask Adam Smith.

We canceled our Spotify account and will be moving to Apple Music. It is ridiculous that Spotify isn’t willing to address this issue. I guess they won’t do the right thing until it affects their bottom line.

"What are you smoking?
I'm just a-**bleep**ing with your head
Only a crazy little thing I read"

Nice.

1. "If you cannot find any solution in Help or in the Community, and would like to contact Spotify Customer Support", unless you want to submit "Ideas/Feedback", then your only option is right back to the Community. Well that's rude.

2. This has been a thing since 2012 with no response? Really?

3. The song lyrics referenced above literally has "(Explicit)" in the title. How hard can it possibly be to filter it out?

4. Pandora has this feature. I deleted my Pandora account because they took sides politically. I guess if I want to listen to something at home (around my kids) or at my desk (where my boss might walk in) I'll have to keep looking for another music player.

5. Since 2012. I still can't believe this hasn't been fixed since 2012 with thousands of likes and comments. Sigh.

Angry edit:

OH THIS IS BULL**bleep**. I typed the lyrics exactly as they were sung, and you censor it IN THE **bleep**ING COMMENTS FORUM. Good day to you sir. I SAID GOOD DAY.
