[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I've been asking for this for years now. Just about resigned to the fact
that it's never going to happen.

It's the years of playlists that has stopped me from making the jump to
another service.

I have just discovered this though which seems to do the transfer:-

Haven't tried it yet, but the desktop version is free so might be worth a
shot?!?!

Just cancelled my Spotify subscription. Google Play Music is no better, you can only filter explicit songs on their Radio channels, not from the library. So I've switched to Apple Music... at least they have this sorted!

Seems like Spotify need to kick their product management team up the rear end on this one...

I am trying Google Play now did not realize that my no explicit choice was
only for radio.

Yes, I find it amazing that none of the services really support parental controls adequately. Apple Music seems the best - you can flick a switch so that anything marked as 'E' gets greyed out, and is not playable.

However, explicit artist/track titles ARE still visible! Apple needs to sort this out, I will contact their support. For example, I don't really want my 9-year old seeing a track called 'Love Yourself or F*** Yourself", which is what they were looking at the other day. My acid test is to search for 'F***'... I really don't want any results coming up, currently all of the services quite happily show a band called 'F***', and many tracks with f*** in the title.

Switched from SLACKER to "try" Spotify out. This one feature is the main reason I'll be leaving and going back, to have a simple option to play filtered music if I chose to - not if the application DECIDES FOR ME - after my paid time expires. Coming from an outsider, you might want to hire more UX professionals for your application or simply stop ignoring your customer base.

SLACKER solves this pain point. I hope your product managers figure this one out.

@withnail99 I believe the explicit filter on those services that do offer it, refers to the lyrics only but excludes the artist name or the song name. This is probably because they get the tags from the record labels along with the music files.

That being said, I don't see why it would be an issue to run a search on the database and flag artists and songs with excplicit words in the name

I would love to be able to play music in my art room without having to be concerned about explicit music poping up right and left.

As far as I can tell, Spotify feels that that forcing this content into our homes and offices is OK, perhaps even desirable for some reason.  Perhaps they think it is 'hip' or 'artistic' to have obscenity in these places?  They refuse to let their customers opt out.

As no Spotify representative is respondng here, I would encourage everyone to email the company executives listed above.  Also perhaps highlight it with as many news sources as possible.

Given that there are so many songs tagged as [explicit] in the browsable playlists, including the "US top 50" and similar, this option is sorely needed.

Come on Spotify get your act together and put an explicit filter on as I work with children, I'm using the family premium and can't play half the songs because they're swearing. This is no good for children to hear. We need this button to turn off swearing Asap.
