[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

The inability to filter out explicit content is the ONLY reason that I don't pay for a premium subscription.

Oh this is rich, my previous posted message said something like "I don't wan't my kids to hear n****r and c**t" when I'm playing a Happy Day playlist... (without the ***)

... and the comment got removed from this thread.

SERIOUSLY?! You won't let me filter it out of my kids ears but you'll censor it on your comments forum?

Unbelievable Spotify!

Hi all, remember to keep up the pressure - tweet to Spotify and SpotifyCares with the hashtag #SpotifyExplicitButton.

If you have access to a family forum like mumsnet or the like, why not raise the issue there too, there are plenty of families out in the world who are trying to reconcile this (just found a discussion on it: http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2568057-To-expect-Spotify-to-have-a-child-friend...). Get them to tweet also, or email, or like the facebook page, because...

There is also now a facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/MakeSpotifyChildSafe/ - like it, share it, build the pressure.

Did you also know that the spotify business version (the funky https://www.soundtrackyourbrand.com/) have this as a selling point - that you can avoid explicit songs in playlists ('Our music team makes sure you can only play music that's safe for work or around the kids). For me, this really takes the biscuit - if they can do it and sell it for business, they can do it for consumer too.

Great - thanks for pointing this out  = an extract from the "Spotify Business" page-

"No explicit tracks

Our music team makes sure you can only play music that's safe for work or around the kids."

This is simply an admission from Spotify that the LACK of an explicit button is unsafe for Kids.

It is also an admission that they value the safety of some children more than others.

Is Spotify Business a new paid upgraded version of Premium? Are we to pay extra for the "privilege" of having this explicit filter on/off option? Seriously Spotify, you've lost track of what's acceptable business ethics/practice v profiteering!

I just unsubscribed from Spotify family.  The reason being it is not family friendly if it cannot exclude songs with explicit lyrics.  Comments have been posted here now for 3 years asking for this to be done and still nothing has changed so it doesn't look like they are interested in making what should be a simple task.

Get on it Spotify.  I'm not going to let my kids use spotify if you can't be responsible.  Should have had this from day 1.

Been in Google Play for ages...

Leaving spotify for this reason. You would think they would listen. It is not censorship of what they are offering just us parents or people who would prefer not to hear about **bleep**, drugs, alcohol, and every curse known to man with the ability for our kids to walk in. Back to apple where I can control content for my family.
