[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

Yes! Need to be able to filter out explicit content...Would be a major boost to make the family plan more attractive.

Both my husband and I would love this feature!

Yes, it's interesting that Spotify wishes to profit off of selling a "family plan" yet will not acknowledge the the wishes and requests of those very families to provide an option to filter explicit content. I would guess that the majority of families attempt to protect their children at certain ages from profanity and content that is age inappropriate. The censorship argument holds little water as artists have had to deal with this concern since the beginning of radio. Spotify, as with radio is an avenue by which artists can profit from their art. If an artist does not want their work to be censored, they can chose other avenues by which to release their art. The internet provides many other options to disseminate music. As a paying customer by whom both Spotify and the artist are profiting, I should have some reasonable right to expect that if a "family plan" is being offered, there is some consideration given to providing an option for filtering content that is inappropriate for kids. I am not a prude, I listen to a variety of music with adult content however I am not comfortable with my son having his own account and being exposed to it. I can monitor it when he is with me but would love to be able to allow him to have access to his own account and music. Musical discovery is a wonderful thing, it can shape one's world and identity in the right context. It would be great if Spotify would accommodate us parents who are trying to create that context and opportunity for our children.

Nevertheless, it's just common sense good business for Spotify to consider this as a way of securing a customer base both in the short and long term. I hope to hear from Spotify on this matter and again request a response that is not canned but rather thoughtfully addresses our concerns.

TO Graiello,  that was very well written and to the point of what many subscribers and non subscribers want, I have tried looking into other music services to see if there are filter alternatives, each has some useful filters but not a complete answer, if Spotify put a little effort, they could dominate even more with a true good filter on explicit material, they have already marked most all explicit material, i can not understand the unwillingness to remedy the problem, An answer from an employee with a timeframe when and if this will ever be put into effect would be better than them never responding to anyone on a  4yr old thread

268 pages of comments... Hmm. It would seem like SUCH a good idea for Spotify to add, wouldn't it?

I'm here Voicing my thoughts and say, "Spotify Get your Game Face on and Put this feature into Spotify! Not having it makes you behind the times with technology."

There is over 200 posts for this, for 5 years it looks like spotify is not interested,

I, too, would like to see an opt-out button to eliminate profanity. I'm afraid to play spotify over the house speakers with elderly parents. Plus, I'm not that crazy about hearing this myself.

The requests for this option go back as far as 2012, at least.

You should have done something by now. Pandora has this feature.

When will you make this option available?

Does anyone have contacts with the media? We need Jeanie Moos to do an
expose on Spotify.
