[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

How can we sign up for or request the beta with this allegedly enabled?

The counter has rolled over at 10, 000 now and its by far the most popular user proposed feature. Even the user comments are over writing which hides the ideas popularity with the user base.

I will start my family subscription when it is in place to lock explicit content for younger family members or on a temp basis for family listening sessions.

I have young children who like to listen to popular playlists, which often contain songs with explicit content. A feature to ignore playing songs with explicit content would make life easier. At the moment I have to manually create playlists to filter out explicit songs. I will be moving to another service due to the lack of an explicit song filter on Spotify.

I've been using Spotify for years. Love the service. In fact, I actually like that they have the original edit, as intended by the artist.

However, I now have kids and don't want them to hear such explicit content. So I went to find the setting to not allow explicit content to find it not available on the app.

After googling I can see this is a 5 YEAR OLD request. I'm shocked and miffed that it's not been taken up. I'm even more shocked that they disallowed a developer (Jacob Singh) to release a free app to do this on their app store...

I'm reluctant to leave Spotify as I've built up my music profile over the years with my likes and dislikes but my kids are more important so I'll be investing alternative services now.

Such a shame that Spotify don't see this as a viable development feature of their app, especially since the tracks are already identified accordingly.

An more recent update from Spotify wouldn't go amiss either!

yes please - if possible play the clean radio edit of the song

F’ing outrageous

I wish that Spotify had the feature of an explicit button. That is the only thing keeping me from switching my family from Apple Music. On Apple Music, there isn’t really an explicit button but I am able to use the workaround where I can turn off explicit songs in restrictions on the phone. This doesn’t work on Mac or Apple TV though.

But Apple music HAS an option to filter all explicit content

Did not Spotify expect and allow for so many comments that they must over-write existing comments? I guess page 1000  of many thousands of outraged parents asking Spotify not to swear at their children would be rather embarassing. Let's just overwrite and keep it just to the hundreds. You can fool some of the people some of the time etc-------

OK all....so It might be time to rachet it up a notch. Like some of you I am not wanting to leave Spotify because of the playlists i've built over the years I've been a loyal customer.

BUT....   I have found a way to get my playlists over from Spotify to Apple Music.  USing an App called

SongShift.  It apparently has the capability to transfer to other services such as Pandora, Napster.etc  I think it may cost a few bucks to get more than one list transferred.

I tested it out on my goto playlist of 450ish songs and it worked almost entirely.  I am assuming a few songs weren't available on Apple Music.

Apple music HAS an explicit filter.

So besides the usual recommendations of giving Spotify a 1 star rating, emailing their Support@spotify.com to tell them you are unhappy with no explicit filter and tweeting @SpotifyCares and saying #SpotifyHatesKids  and #SpotifyDoesntCare  and going to the website http://spotifyexplicitfilter.com and signing up for the email list, maybe you can download the free app "SongShift" and do a 3 month Free trial of Apple Music.

you might just find that Spotify ain't as 'prescious' as you thought.

Bottom line - these guys don't care about you or me or our kids and the fact that we are not wanting to expose them to F, N, B, etc...  It is a Idealogical Stance they are taking and I have found a way out of supporting it for now.

So - My recommendation if you want to somehow break thru their ideological stiff-neckedness (new word), then keep exerting pressure....but also have a plan B and that is using a service like Apple music or other and geting your play lists transferred to another service.

Stay strong and keep doing what is right for your families and your children.

by the way - I am not endorsing any of the above apps/services....just a concerned parent fed up with Spotify's Bleep!

If this feature is not added, I have no other option than to cancel my membership. It would be irresponsible of me. I'm a mom with small kids and I have a responsibility to protect my kids from the vulgarity of the world. I assumed this option was a given and I'm truly blown away that it's not integrated in the system.
