[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

obviously, the Artist's are pushing their weight also

About time I start looking for a new music provider!

Don't want to influence myself with those artists!

Understand that some results might get through a filter system (5%etc.) but I wouldn't mind so much and I could maybe report, block or skip a song

It's not as though we are asking for something elaborate. Hide/block explicit songs. Not EVERYONE is comfortable with the language of today's music. Smh...

I don't know if we can really blame the artists for this is one.

All the other music streaming companies are adding this feature, and they are subject to the same complaints from artists as Spotify is. Also, we're not asking to completely remove the songs, what we want is for Spotify to play the radio edit version of the song if it is tagged with the explicit tag, and the account is flagged with "Do not play Explicit Content". This wouldn't hurt the artist at all, as their song would still get heard, it would just be the radio edit instead of the explicit version.

Also, I checked the iPad last night after I charged it as the battery was dead. I didn't see the explicit filter in there anywhere.

Lastly, this should be a built in function of Spotify, so I don't know why this would be operating system dependent. This should be a feature that is in the Premium Family plan control panel. You should be able to flag the account as "No Explicit" for whatever accounts you want to block explicit content for. It should NOT be in the settings, as our kids can just go into settings and disable that feature if they want. That would be a complete and utter implementation failure. The owner of the account should be able to flag "No Explicit" on specific accounts, so I would be able to go in and block Explicit content from my child's account, as well as block it on the Alexa account, but still have it available on my account, as I am an adult. This would be the proper implemenation of this feature. Anything less is just dumb, as I know my 11 year old boy will go in and turn the setting off on his own whenever he wants, and since he wears headphones all the time, I would never even know it without having to constantly keep checking his phone.

Has anyone seen the function yet

SimonWraight
Yes, I my dreams. Its the only place it exists.

I've just checked, customer service agent said that the feature has been delayed. Less than 36 hours ago, Spotify CS checked and said the feature has been rolled out, do a clean install, and if it still does not appear, wait for 24 to 48 hours as the team is rolling this out in batches.

LATEST UPDATE- The release date has been pushed back with nothing definite in sight.

Make your own conclusion on Spotify's credibilty and sincerity.

@apinch4u  Hi, did spotify shut off the thread (explicti button) you've created last week, instead they have re-directed you over?

For those who are keen, this is what Spotify wrote : -

Hey @apinch4u

A similar idea has also been suggested here:

Please vote for it, and add a comment there, so it may be considered. Any update on the matter should be posted there. 🙂

This is a basic feature that you should have implemented long ago.  So frustrating to have to fast forward past songs before the kids get a chance to hear *(#*&$^@!

Why does this take so long?
