[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

A professional development team could have this feature implemented, tested, and running live in less than a day.

I believe that this is a different feature than Parental Controls. Parental Controls iwould be better integrated with Parental Controls that are built into the platforms that the app runs on, instead, for example, iOS Restrictions, or MacOS Parental Controls. This "No explicit content" button is a nice feature to toggle on any account when playing music in mixed company, but you really need to provide parents with tools that help control content that children are exposed to when using the app unsupervised. This has to be a bigger priority for the company than it appears to be, with no activity for 2+ years. Right now, Spotify makes being 13 a requirement for having an account. That is ignoring a huge portion of the music listening market, is a huge drag on low churn family plans, and frankly, is a roadmap to lie for many users...I promise many account holders are below 13 and just lied about their ages.

This is a must have.  I was considering purchasing a premium membership but if there is no option to turn off explicit content, I will not be purchasing.  Not only for my kids, but I prefer not to listen to the explicit content.

it has been 6 years since this was first raised. i would assume this should now be addressed??? discouraging 😞

This is Spotify’s response to my tweets about their info that they would
release the feature last Monday:
“Sorry for the confusion here. We're afraid we don't have any news to share
right now, but the right folks are looking into this. We'll be right here
if there's anything else in the meantime /Q”

They blatantly lie to and ignore their customers. Unthrustworthy company
that took my money for many years, The only value they care about is the
value of $$$$.

I would love this option! I work in an open space where explicit content would not be appropriate. Being able to turn off explicit content would allow me to listen to more playlists that I liked while at work without having to worry about something playing that isn't appropriate.

Please implement this!

This is a great idea! This is exactly what Spotify needs to push it over the top! I am in need of this option, as of yesterday!

This is really making me want to leave Spotify and stop paying for a family account. There's language and music I don't want my 9 year old exposed to, especially since she listens to music all the time.

So far it only looks like Apple Music has a sophisticated set up for blocking explicit stuff on a family account.

Spotify is SO stupid to stay behind the curve on this...

It's shocking that explicit songs are splattered all over spotify playlists.  Suggestion, go on social media and asked them directly.
