[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I don't know what kind of music you prefer but I don't generally pick lists that have a lot of potential or the N-word or B-hotches in them. If I was going to pick a list with several explicit songs on it to play at work or some such place, I would suggest selecting all and sending them to a new list, then delete the explicit ones, which are generally marked. That is what I ment by "manual." I did not mean that you are limited to only lists you have created for yourself from scratch. Is it annoying, yes, and I wish Spotify would change this to help us out, but Pandora is no replacement for me whatsoever.

LOL! I chose High Intensity Workout and other innocent lists from the main
page... Had to skip way to many songs.

Generally concur though.

If Spotify had easier list management, it could help. E.g. add songs to
main list, copy list to new, sort on explicit flag, delete all with flag.
Lame but better than what we have.

Another simple thing would be to at least flag Spotify's main lists as
Explicit. Who would think upbeat/workouts or even dance/electronic would
have things like that by default since they are offered by Spotify?

Why has this idea not been finalized yet? I just experienced a very embarassing warning from my teacher about my music, and i didn't even know the song had an explicit version! Please make this button exist!

I strongly suggest that we all call them out on their social accounts like
Twitter etc because they're obviously ignoring their own forum.

I would love to have this feature . The music quality is great hear and i love everything about spotify but im suprised to see the lack of this one feature that allmost everyone has. 😞 I would love to see this feature implemented.

Been using Spotify for a couple of months and I LOVE the way it is set up.  But I have no room in my life for explitic lyrics.  I would love to be able to broaden my music lanscape and try new music without having to take a chance on being offended by the language.  It's not just kids that you could protect here.  I would definately use a "No Explicit" button.  Since songs are tagged, this should be easy.

Coming up on 3 years since this was first requested. That's 1095 days, 8765 hours, 525949 minutes, and obviously A LOT of seconds. How much time was spent on possibly implementing this?

They built the titanic in three years, the titanic.

It is extremely disappointing that something requested so long ago by so many people has been ignored. As much as I love the Spotify service, I may now have to consider switching to something else. With a family of ages 3 and 7 they love listening to the top tracks as it plays many of the songs they hear elsewhere. But recently this has included songs with expletives and rude words. In this day and age this not only poor service from Spotify but a lack of appropriate social responsibility.

I use PartyIQ to allow people to add songs at parties.  The soundtrack we create does not contain explicit tracks but people do add explicit tracks that I have to manuall skip.  It would be nice to allow explicit tracks to be filtered out.

I am new to spotify. I have been using pandora for years and I am impressed with many of the features in spotify. My big hold up with jumping over completely is the ability to filter explicit content so that I can confidently try new playlists without fear of my children hearing "new" words or of insulting friends who may be over.
