[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I help run a youth club and it would be very useful to be able to set up a recent hits playlist and not have to worry about language.

Still an issue - is there any progress on this? I notice Spotify are pushing family subscriptions, so this really should get sorted - Please!

This idea really needs to be implemented! Here are a few ways to make the feature even more awesome:

First of all, it would be great to see an easier differentiation between the clean and explicit versions of songs. Currently, we just have to look for the "Parental Advisory" sticker on the album art, which is easy to forget about and hard to see. When both versions are available, it would be great to either have [Clean] or [Explicit] at the end of the title, or an icon near the name (such as in iTunes). This will make differentiating easier.

Secondly, having a preference option for the whole account and/or each playlist would be great to simplify sorting between the versions and making something appropriate for work/children/parties/etc. At the account level of settings, I would recommend options of "Always Clean," "Always Explicit," and "Manual" or "No Preference." The latter option (Manual/No Preference) would allow each individual playlist to be governed by the same options: All Explicit, All Clean, and Manual/No Preference. The latter would allow you to create a playlist with both clean and explicit songs, utilizing their tagging system mentioned above to find which is which.

This could also be somehow implemented as a Premium feature. For example, free account members can only select the account level options, but not the playlist options.

At least let us sort by the "Explicit" tag so we can move them to the bottom of a playlist, yet it would be better if you allowed us to disable those songs in a playlist.

Th explicit option is imperative. C'mon Spotify, wake up!

This is still under consideration? I'll share a story that may help move this consideration along. New Year's Eve I was at a house party, probably about 75 people my age group 21-30 most college grads most with a steady income. Well just having scored a deal for 99cents for 3 monthes I threw my newly acquired spotify app on the speakers, all was well til 3 songs in it started censoring half the darn song! Someone asked why I had the censored version, and I had to let them know.."oh s$&; spotify sucks, skip the song" those simple words I'm sure echo through multiple minds as they choose the streaming service to toss their money to, I love spotify but I won't be re upping until this is fixed.

Tl;dr : New Year's Eve a house full of spotify's target demographic heard a close peer express dissatisfaction with your service

This feature should have been there from the start.  Grandkids were over listening and the F-bombs were  everywhere and no way to keep them from hearing & seeing in the search function (besides turning the service off!).  If someting is not done about this soon I will be switching to a more family friendly service.

I really can't understand why this is an issue and why Spotify hesitates adding an explicit filter.  I understand free speech and and all but it is impossible to avoid the F-word the way its set up.  I'll never let my kids use spotify as a result.  I'm very careful about adding songs but I still hear the F-word at least once per listening session, especially if I listent to any predefined Spotify lists.  Serious drawback to the service...

completely agree that this should be a feature of spotify - quite shocking that it is not. i will not be encouraging my children to use this service.

+1 I can't use Spotify at all when the kids are around. We had friends over for a small gathering (with kids) and I had to explain why we couldn't use Spotify on our 'fancy' streaming audtio system. It created quite a discussion and several families who had heard of Spotify will now go nowhere near it.

All of these comments over multiple years - it's a joke. Spotify should be ashamed for not listening to it's subscribers. I for one am investigating other family friendly options.
