[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

This would be very useful, just today one of my workmates that I convinced to switch to Spotify from Pandora asked if there was any sort of explicit filter similar to what Pandora has. Had to regretfully tell him there is no such option. Being that him and I listen through speakers at work, an explicit filter would be extremely welcome!

Fairly new to Spotify and I really like it but, I have a 5yo and it seems that this still gets through with even the most random radio stations.
I DO like it and considered a premium subscription but if many more F bombs slip through I am more likely to discontinue Spotify, altogether.

**bleep** **bleep** **bleep** **bleep** **bleep**.... They will never do this.  However swearing in the forum is offensive.  I guess they just dont like suprises like swearing just popping up.  I wonder if they just have incompenent developers or if the management is making the developers look incompetent.

Love the service but hate having my music interrupted with censorship which I'm morally opposed to because it destroys the artists' intentions and meaning completely defeating the purpose of the lyric in the first place. It's criminal to tell anyone they can't express themselves because of the stigma against swearing, but the whole point of swearing in a song is to add or communicate some meaning. What exactly any specific meaning that may be (for example when a metal singing swears he's angry or when a rapper swears their adding form to their rythmn or whatever) is irrelevant but removing the words because they're "inappropriate" is so infuriating to me because that word was obviously the most appropriate way for the artist to express themselves.

Can we get an option to turn off censored music too? Put the option on a slider with one side being all censored, the middle having both (I can't think of any reason why but I'm sure if it's not there people will complain cause they're not me and care about things I don't) and the far option be NO CENSORSHIP

Exactly! Sounds great to me! At home, I don't want or need censorship of
my music, and would prefer the original song. At school with 12 year olds
- I don't need curse words, but I'd like an intermediate between Kidz Bop
and the real deal! 🙂

I've officially made the switch to Apple Music and cancelled my Spotify subscription.  Screw you Spotify for not implementing this ridiculously simple feature and putting $ ahead of your customers.

So get this....with the explicit feature on Apple Music, i have signed up for the family plan @ Apple and am spending $5 more a month with Apple so my entire family can enjoy music.  Not only did you lose a customer, you lost a customer that was willing to pay more for a feature that should have been implemented years ago.  Now i can rest assured that my kids will be listening to more age-appropriate music and not stuff from Nikki Minaj, NWA, 2 Live Crew, etc. (that's my playlist).  Oh yeah, don't call it a family plan when it's not family friendly.

In the words of an artist that made me ask for this feature....you can "eat my ass like a cupcake".  Let's see you censor that comment!!!!

vagabond_boys

It's a fairly simple fix to a problem that is bothering alot of people, get it done already or we'll start looking for other options

Does anyone know if there are other music streaming services which offer this feature other than apple music.  As I understand Deezer does not have it.

Also can someone please explain the process of switching to Apple music?  Do they have an automatic process for converting playlists etc?

How does the selection from apple compare to Spotify?  Since I mostly listen to classical and jazz I find the spotify selection quite good, although the search capability is lacking.  Since I mostly to classical and jazz, the explicit lyrics problem only occurs occasionally, but it is still disheartening when it happens.

SERIOUSLY?  3 years in consideration? 1 year since the last comment from Spotify?

Please, pretty please with sugar on top (and a continuing paid subscription!) Please put in a filter for explicit content.

At the very least,  give us some idea what the 3year holdup is!

Cant listen to music around my kids. Played a summer mix this morning. 3 out of 4 songs featured the F bomb....Had to load a 50s and 60s album just to stop this happening. Very poor and am considering subscription removal over it.
