[All Platforms] Sleep Timer

I am a new user to Spotify from NZ and the first thing I miss having moved from iphone's built in music player is the sleep timer. I understand this feature stopped working in one of the recent versions of spotify App. If it is a compatibility issue partly related to iOS 5, may I suggest that you build a sleep timer into the App itself

Also, as suggest by one other Spotify user, Nyx, it would be even better if you could include an alarm featuer so we can all wake up to our favourite playlists within Spotify.

Thanks again for all the great work you guys are doing and we really hope you would consider this new idea.

Cheers

Update: The issue with sleep timer seems to be working in iOS 8.

I love the reply that it seems like a "good idea" yet they have no plans for it.   It seems like an overwhelmingly great idea - How could this not be a standard feature?

Spotify should update their application with this new feature and soon.. this is getting annoying. My phone music player has the feature built in (and it'a mobile phone company), spotify is a MUSIC application, you should have consider this from the start already.

Agreed. And Agreed. I LOVE Spotify. I really really do! And it's not just the music selection that's great to me, it's the playlists that are RELEVANT to me, and the playlists that aren't relevant to me are created and organized in a manner which makes it easy for me to experiment with new music and find new artists and genres to fall in love with. But basic little techies just learning code up to the most experienced tech people I know all say this is an easy implementation. I can’t help but to go back to the comment I made months ago – about companies that get too big for their britches. (and let me qualify that by saying “big” is different for everything; it could be defined by net worth, say, for banks, insurance companies and billionaires, by the number of Likes for blogs and posts and pictures, by the number of Stars for restaurants and retailers, by the number of Visitors and Call to Action clicks for internet store fronts, by number of users for apps and games, etcetera etcetera). It gets to a point where they don’t care about suggestions or new features and benefits anymore because – they don’t HAVE TO. And that is sad. But that is the state of these United States. A spoiled rotten society that gets what they want, when they want it, and when they do – they just don’t care about anything else anymore. Including everyone and everything that helped them to get where they are.

This feature is just such a no-brainer for a music app. There are far more reasons to use a "Sleep Timer" or "Auto Off" function, or "Auto Stop" feature or whatever one wishes to call it, for just going to sleep.  Which is why the answers like "Saving money for Spotify" or "Decreasing bandwith during peak or off peak hours" or - well - all those other answers to this request that I have found in the forums are not Answers. It's a feature you would think  - for music apps - especially those with PLAYLISTS FOR SLEEPING, or PLAYLIST for BABY - would be coded in directly from the start. Yes - there are apps out there that you can download to do this for you however - FIrst: not EVERYONE can afford a phone with the extra space or processing to save dozens of apps on thier phone. Second: - -no forget that! It is just plain silly to think that an app with a PREMIUM feature that you PAY FOR  would require you to download ANOTHER app to create a feature to do something so many people want when they should have implemented from the beginning. This feature just makes way too much sense don't you think?

I posted on twitter to Spotify that would like to see a sleep timer integrated into Spotify similar to Audibles which has an off, 15, 30, 45, 60 min and end of chapter options. End of chapter could be an end of playlist.

This should not be considered as an "idea"  it should be considered as a "BASIC" feature that was considered an oversight when the Application was first designed.  Please fix the product to have this basic feature implemented. Sleep Timers are basic to mobile audio apps everywhere.

I've had long chats with customer service about this twice now. I think this time I actually got them to promise me a personal email response from someone, so if it comes I will let everyone know. This is like a six year episode of the twilight zone.

Also, weirdly enough, the customer service person told me that just last week a sleep timer for podcasts was implemented...But only for podcasts..............Huh?

And here is the wildy exciting (/s) reply:

Hi,

This email is in response to the live chat you had with one of our agents recently. We can confirm that your case has been escalated to the highest tier in Customer Support, all communication within this email thread will be from the Executive team from now on.

As you already know, we've implemented the sleep timer for Podcasts, which shows that we're working at this towards the right direction.

We truly appreciate your feedback and commitment about this, but at the current state we're not able to provide you with any status updates on this. We're always looking to develop new things and we understand this is a sought after function by many users.

Apologies that we're not able to be more helpful in this matter. If you have any other questions or concerns you wish to bring up with us, please let us know.

All the best,

Martin

Absolutely Spotify should have sleep timer, on every platform! It has long been a standard, expected feature on audio playing apps, and it's bizarre that it's lacking in Spotify, esp considering how cutthroat competitive music streaming services have become. Sleep timer is a make or break feature for many ppl, myself included. Without it, I won't be staying with Spotify after the trial period runs out.
