[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

I tell you what ,google music still have theirs (they're usually always onto it) , and I have a family of annoyed Spotify listeners with accounts, I used this every day and none of your solutions work on my s10, if this isn't sorted soon, you can jam your music right up your clacker, I am serious who's your marketing guy they've got it wrong on this one for Android! #dontdrink #toomuchsmack #spotifydidwhat

Seriously Spotify ?   Why did you remove the home screen widget functionality for Android ?   Why remove a great feature when it was working perfectly, I can see on your forum/community others also have the same complaint as me so please explain why you guys retired that feature....and no, this article is no explanation!!

And no again, "simply" swiping down is NOT eaiser than having a widget.  One of the reasons I bought your premium subscription was it was so easy to use with the widget (and of course to get rid of those commercials), now I will have to look elsewhere for paid subscription and my widget.

I seriously can't understand why you would remove the widget on your Android app when widgets is such a big part of Android.

The widget is important enought for me to change to Tidal or the many other options out there since I use it in my car, with my Sonos etc tec.

So please Spotify, bring back the home screen widget since I really don't wanna leave Spotify.  Listen to me and a lot of your users and please bring it back!

Straight up, I'm seriously considering leaving spotify because of this ridiculous decision to remove the widget. Whomever made this regrettable decision should get canned from Spotify. "all you have to do is use the notification bar!" yeah. Nobody wants to use the stupid notification bar that you have to drag down. We want the functionality we had. Software development 101: Always add functionality, never remove it. **bleep**.

Really lame move dropping the widget. Screwing over the artists and your subscribers. Spot on.

No obvious reason to have it removed, other than if you don't want to have a developer working on said feature. And imo. removing a feature because of laziness/economical savings is just bad display.

Please bring the widget back!

I'm going to just downgrade to an old version (thank you apk mirror) and disable updates.  I doubt anyone from spotify will see this, but here goes:

I don't care about a constant barrage of new "features".  I just want to listen to music. And I want a consistent and stable user experience.

For everyone else, I would encourage you to go to the app store, and leave a 1 star review citing the removal of core functionality (i.e. the widget removal) as a reason for the 1 star.

As a software engineer I have the following to say. I'm going to assume Spotify development works in an agile fashion. This message goes to the stakeholders, scrum masters, and developers. All you, tell this to your Product Owners.

"Pull your head out of that very dark place which some people call a posterior. You'll find the improved posture more palatable."

You have effectively made UX worse, and just in case you've forgotten the definition of UX; it means User Experience. That's right, you have made the Experience of using Spotify worse by removing the widget

Edit: P. S. If you product owners made this decision out of ignorance instead of stupidity, perhaps you should fix another stupid mistake and start prioritizing the BI and Telemetry stories your developers have been asking about for, for months.
