[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

Okay, so you removed the widget, which was the absolute simplest way to access my music. Because your features don't work correctly (I can't swipe down to the menu to access it like you claim I can), I now have to go to my apps, scroll three pages until I get to apps starting with S, find Spotify, launch Spotify, and press "pause" on my music  OR I have to shut off my phone screen and use the unlock screen to pause my music. How stupid is that?!?! You have made this app so much harder, and more inconvenient to use in this last update. I'm going to be cancelling my subscription as soon as the month is out!

Thanks for the update, Spotify.

Already checking other apps to sign up for.

Absolutely moronic decision. You've just lost yourselves thousands of customers, and the one star reviews are racking up by the minute.

This isn't how you treat customers, especially those of us actually paying for your "service"

I honestly might cancel my subscription if this feature doesn't get added back in. I can't fathom why you would remove a useful feature from a service that we're paying money for? Were enough people not opening your app for your liking? The notification bar is useless at best, just like it is for every other app, because it just disappears randomly while you've got music paused, and it is obviously of no use when I don't have music playing to begin with.

Bring back the widget. It won't take much work. You had it active just yesterday, after all.

"We're I am setting this idea my wallet to 'Not Right Now', as this isn't something we I have any immediate plans to reintroduce. re-subscribe."

Hello apple music. Transferring my music right now. Did you know they added two widgets around two years ago?

This is something I can't wrap my mind around. Why remove such a feature? It is not something that was hurting the last version. It wasn't very resource intensive. It was very reliable on all of my devices. About 5 years ago when Spotify had barely any competition, a move like this would have made at least a bit more sense. I have been thinking of switching to another music streaming platform for a while now and I think this might be the last straw for me. I've been with Spotify for ages and I've loved it since day one. But you broke the code guys! If it ain't broke don't fix it. No one asked for this feature to be taken down. The notification panel is mediocre at best compared to the widget. And now I have another empty spot on my home screen because of some poor execution strategy. I guess I'll just fill that spot with other apps now, perhaps YouTube Music, or TIDAL. I'm very disappointed, to say the least. This is a perfect example of every company that gets big enough to do things like that without considering its user base and how it might affect them. They just don't care if they lose a few users. That's just the reality of it all. Welcome to the commercial world, where money comes first and people come last.

Pandora has a widget and combined playlist shuffle options. Maybe I will save a $120 and switch.

This is such a great idea! The guy who suggested this should be in charge of Spotify app, rather than whoever is in change and apparently doesn't even use Spotify

This was simply the best way to use Spotify. I have been paying for years and you continue to remove useful features. Maybe I should stop paying, hmmm. I can't fathom how managing the widget would cost you very much and it is incredibly more useful/convenient than going to the notification bar.
