[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

This is a stupid update, period. But the real problem was the lack of communication. No warning, no explanation. I now have to wonder what else I'll be missing from my paid service everytime it updates, because Spotify will change basic functionality without warning, and then pretend that feature is a new thing it can look into developing.

Like it has been stated previously, if this isn't back soon I'm canceling my family plan and moving to Apple music

Maybe there should have been a vote to remove it, instead of working backwards. That way it would have been known that no one agreed to the widget being removed.  This is something we chose to pay for, and I like so many people, will be moving my subscription to another platform that has a widget. The other part is safety, removing the widget creates more steps to get to what we want meaning it could be dangerous while driving trying to go to the next song! Furthermore, there should have been some type of notification. What an asinine decision! Maybe consider your patrons before making dumb changes that helps no one.

Have used the widget daily ever since my first Android phone. Removing it makes usability worse, especially for runners/athletes quick access while on the move... Swiping down, scanning through notifications, and performing another tap is actually pretty frustrating through an arm band even if you're standing still.

So what's the necessary amount of votes needed before this is sorted?

I will not use it without a widget. Cannot believe you, Spotify. Unimpressed

I'm sorry to say this because I love you guys, but removing the widget was just plain moronic and you know it. Put it back and start looking like a well designed media player again. We'll all pretend it never happened and move on. Thanks. 😉

"New Idea" eh?

Schilldo

This is not a novel concept, you pulled an everday functionality feature out of working in production without any bugs and gave the users no option to replace? Why would anyone remove functional features that sets them apart from the competition? This is just a very bad decision.

Removing the widget makes the app less useful.  Please bring it back!
