Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

What a truly terrible idea, stinks of group think rather than actually finding out how users use their phones. Removing a widget should be the last thing on the list, it just needed some TLC

So if this trend keeps up, this will be the highest voted idea on the board in about a week. I'm sure this entire idea board hasn't had this much activity in recent memory. Might be time to rethink the feature roadmap and put the widget back into production.

You'd be making a lot of Android users very happy, a lot of us live by the widget UI. It's half of the reason many of us are Android users in the first place, rather than iOS.

Is this going to stop me from using Spotify? No. Is it going to annoy me that everytime I want to listen to music I have to open the app first? Absolutely! Will I use it less? Probably, I'll probably just hit play on my audible widget instead.

With almost 12k votes and countless comments and no reply from Spotify, I think it's safe to assume that this was a deliberate move to push ad views in the app and we'll not see it back ever.

Understandable, since it's a competitive business.

Sadly, end product is crappier for it. Really bad timing with the upcoming family pricing increase.

My premium is now canceled due to this and I'm trying out both Deezer and Google Play Music (hey they both have widgets!).

Spotify! If you read this, perhaps at least consider making the widget a premium feature? So as to not screw over the paying segment of your users.

Is there any reason the widget has been removed? Going to have to find an alternative platform for my family plan if it doesn't come back soon.

The best idea ever, the guy that had the idea "let's remove the widget, they can use the notification!!!!!" YOU NEED A RAISE! EINSTEIN! YOU NEED A NOBEL: "THE BEST IDEA EVER". Why remove the widget? Why? The people used it. You don't want get it back? Ok! Put the code in GitHub. We will bring it back. You guys made terrible decisions in the latest updates, this one is the worst one. Spotify is almost unusable right now. Terrible usability. Terrible search. Terrible latency. Terrible decisions. Terrible.

My phone plan has Deezer included and I prefer to use Spotify, more than 4 years. You guys disrespect you own users. You guys do not deserve our loyalty.

Downgraded to 8.4.90.722 (the version before the terrible UI update), and disabled updates. SO MUCH BETTER.

Should I continue my Spotify subscription? 🤔 I'm thinking the answer is "not right now." This is a ridiculous decision, and it shows a total lack of respect for your customers.
