[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

You can use Tasker and Kustom widget to put a custom created spotify widget back on your homescreen, but it does cost a small amount of $$.  What I've done is cancel premium and put the widget back.  I'll try go 6 months free spotify to send a message to Spotify about their complete lack of customer empathy and will try a few other services during this period.

It was easy enough to do - see how you go.

Seriously the dumbest move you could make. The app is fine, the widget was perfect, stop changing things that don't need to change. The widget made it easy to play from. I want to turn on music quickly, not click through 10 menus to get there. If I stop my music in the widget it's still there on that song 3 hours later when I go back. If I only have the option in the pull down menu, that goes away after a certain length of time or my kid hits "clear" on the bottom of it or swipes it off. Now it's back into the app and click, click, click.....just put the widget back....we all clearly want it.

So dumb to remove. I'll give you a full week to bring the widget back, otherwise I'm finding another provider. Been a loyal premium member ever since I got spotify (we're talking many years) but now you're just **bleep**ing with us. FIX THIS **bleep**ING ASAP!

Twelve thousand six hundred three customers want this back and over 114 pages of comments that mimic that same sentiment yet nothing but dead silence from Spotify.  This my friends should tell you all you need to know about Spotify and the company as a whole. Their lack of customer service or care about what matters to their base.

Would you allow a store you walk into to treat you the same way? Would you ever shop there again?  I think I would be on point when I say **bleep** no, you wouldn't.

Your best bet is to show them where it hurts, and that's on the P&L. They went public with their so-called IPO, which they did last year. Start canceling subscriptions and move to another platform.

Trust me with this kind of response from customers and nothing from them they have no intention of bringing a fundamental function back.

On top of that, the product as a whole has gone WAY downhill with many ridiculous changes. Do yourself a favor switch to the free version once you finish out your month and in the meantime go someplace else that will care about what you need and desire in basic functionality.

There are so many options out there; it will just take a little time to get used to it.  It is, after all, the most significant thing about Capitalism you don't like it GREAT it won't be forced upon you like Socialism/Communism.

Edit: Think about it if all those who voted this up (12,603) at this time I posted had paid family subs at 14.99 a month for a year that's a loss of $2,267,027.64

Wow Spotify.

114 pages with negative opinions on the removal of the widget and you still do not want to change anything. My Premium has expired today and it is time to say goodbye. Deezer is now my new home.

Yeah, Spotify do whatever they want - my Family subscription ends after couple of weeks, so I'll be moving to Deezer as well. Its pointless to write, vote and be angry with people who don't even have the courtesy to stand before their actions and explain why they did it.

Here is my Twitter convo with @spotifycares.....say it all really. Just contempt for their customers. Screenshot_20190822_091757_com.twitter.android.jpg

On the upside, Amazon Music is proving to be really good.... And I'm paying half the price for it.

My current subscription is due to expire on september 1, so I will give them time until that.

I don't even use android but this whole mess of changing things and removing features just for the sake is weird one.

The app works nice and was something really great but taking some important features is lame move, instead of developing this feels so much going backwards instead.

Unless something remarkable happens, I have to vote with my wallet and use other services..

Seems that Spotify is falling down as the other services provide better experience, better sound quality etc.

The loss of the Android widget will likely single-handedly make me move over to some other provider of music streaming, if it is not shortly re-introduced. It is completely unintelligible to me why it has been removed.

You going to close this thread too? Smart -- getting rid of the widget means we have to open the app-- where we are greeted with ads  err "annoucements**bleep** music clearly being promoted by spotify for more money. Seriously this decision **bleep**ing sucks, the new ui **bleep**ing sucks,  currently doing trials of deezer, quboz and google music. going to move the whole fam outta here.
