[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

We appreciate your passion for this feature and want to thank you all for your feedback!

@Guido so you see all the people complaining, have this "idea" as the most voted one by far and still think its a bad idea to have the widget back? It doesnt even bother the people who dont want to use it, but a lot of people like that feature and there was no reason to remove it

15,351 votes and Spotify is still silent,

Uhh, great. I updated to hopefully fix the stupid screen not rotating anymore thing, and my widget disappeared. So now not only does my screen not rotate, but the widget is gone too. If I'd known about this, I would have never updated.

And how about a better answer to why this change was made than your BS  "well golly gee, some times we change stuff hyuck hyuck". No, really? How about answering WHY, which is the reason I clicked that link in the first place.

I've been using spotify ever since I ditched rhapsody because of their awful ui and practices. I'm not looking forward to throwing spotify on that same pile. Fix this, or tell us why you won't.

Oh, and "use the notification bar" as an alternative? Fire the person that wrote that. It's insulting, vapid, and user hostile. You should know better.

Secret_Army

I'm leaving spotify because you got rid of the widget. You guys really **bleep** up with this one.

The cacophony of irritated requests for a feature to be brought back tells almost all. Over 15k votes to bring this back- over 3x the votes of the next "feature request". The fact that this happened almost immediately following the feature kill tells the rest of it. Your users want an answer to what is going on- and you understand that we either deserve it, or you do not deserve us. Time to stop acting like the Android user base is an interruption  of your work. We are here, you asked us to speak up and we did. You ask us for money every month and we do. You ask us for feedback and we provide it. This is completely unacceptable- treat us with the respect we deserve as your life blood and explain to us what is happening. The Guido user it infuriating us all with his seemingly ignorant responses that specifically tell us nothing and avoid an type of coherent response. The pull down notification DOES NOT WORK FOR US. We deserve better communication. We are everything you have. Plenty of services have died after failing to respond properly to this sort of SIMPLE, SIMPLE incident.

Bring the f&#^ing widget back or explain to us what is going on- but get Guido the F&$K away from us! That user-hostile antagonist is less than unhelpful right now.

Nope- how silly. I get it now.

This is about ads. Widgets don't present ads.

Spotify, you can go sit on it. Not a good way to f$%k with your user base. This is a really, really miserable bad move.

Give your premium users the goddam widget.

Just another ugly money grubbing company that doesn't give a sod for its consumer base that put them where they are. Absolutely: shame on all of you. This petty**bleep** is not what music is about, and you know better. This revenue grab was too much.

SUMFING

I already have Prime, I just couldn't be bothered with the effort to switch to Music Unlimited. The cost is lower, there are more songs, and the widget works. That's plenty of motivation, and I doubt I'll be coming back.

Marked as "Not right now" ??

Marked as "New idea" ?

Are you f***** kidding me? Why do you remove something that clearly is working for everyone and none of your offered solutions solve it? It's not like you have to allocate devs to design this "new feature". It was already there!!

I know why this has been done, just google "Duncan Bayne Spotify Widget" and he explains that Spotify will start showing ads to premium users disguised as "Recomendations" and they won't be able to show those "recomendations" if you use a widget. It's taking a **bleep** on premium users..

Even if 10.000 premium users leave, Spotify will earn more revenue with these "recomendations" to premium users than the subscription of those 10k users that left....

After posting this I'm cancelling my premium subscription and moving to Google Music. I've used "Exportify" website to export all my spotify playlists to CSV files, so now at least I got excel files with all my playlists and songs in it so I can start somewhere else. Adios s*ckers!

NoUrOtherLeft

I am very dissatisfied with the removal of the widget. I use it way more than the pull down menu. It's really dumb to get rid of features that people use the most. Bring it back please?!?

W. T. F.? Why would you de-introduce it in the first place. The mind boggles. Anyone would think you have no competition.
