[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

We appreciate your passion for this feature and want to thank you all for your feedback!

How does this improve the service? For people who didn't use the widget the app is exactly the same, but for people who did use the widget the app is worse now. Who was this decision for?

So we removed the working widget for the broken junk on the lock screen that crashes phones and regularly doesn't work?

Even as a software developer myself, I can see that's a terrible idea.

Make sure the backup works first before removing any working functionality don't pidgeon hole is into junk that doesn't work.

I can see it now, an dumb person using spotify because they are required to take their eyes off the road to now navigate the app... well done...

So stupid.

So I walked away from Google Play Music paid service to give a try to Spotify and I'm during a trial period.

Most of the time I use the player while driving so the widget makes it very easy to use. Without it, not that easy.

Maybe I should end the trial and get back to Google Play Music, after all they do have a widget 😉

I hope you listen to your users and their valuable feedback.

The widget is a standard Android 1.0 feature. Not supporting it shows a clear bias against the platform. Cut your costs somewhere else!

Please bring back the widget!

Getting rid of it was a terrible decision. Why remove a feature that functioned perfectly?! I love spotify and I can't believe you've done this.

PLEASE BRING BACK THE WIDGET. Everyone go trend #BringBackTheWidget on social media and tag @Spotify and @SpotifyUSA and @SpotifyCares. Shoot even tag @spotifyartists so that their content creators and source of their income understands that the service is actively taking away features that the users depend on. Terrible decision Spotify, shame on you. And shame on you even more for opening voting on the issue, getting more replies and votes than you literally ever have on anything else, and then immediately saying "Not right now". Feels like you're sending a big SCREW YOU to all of your android users.

Hi Spotify,

I found out others like Tidal and Apple Music still provides widgets. Unless Spotify changes, I am all prepared to cancel my subscription at the end of this month.

Thank you

It's rediculous you got rid of a feature many users utilize. Why not give users the option to choose if they wanted to use it or not, what does that hurt?

I used this to easily start music, but now I can't. Many users used it for many various reasons, but you took that away from us.

To continue from my earlier post here https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Android-Other-Android-Widget/idc-p/4803617/highlight/tru... (For some reason, couldn't quote it)

After ending my subscription, I finally took Tidal to the test. Works well on my phone, sadly not so well on my Win 10 computer, but the best thing is it kinda looks like a cleaner leaner version of Spotify and still has the widget fully functional. Also, the switch cost me nothing - Same monthly price, and even got a free trial month to begin it with. So thanks Spotify?
