[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

Ok, perhaps paying a little extra for Tidal is gonna be worth it after all. You have just removed the single most used piece of UI for me.

Everyone...I may have found a way for everyone who has replied to this post to send the moderator,Tom a private message.  After logging into the Spotify community site, try copying and pasting the following link and see if it opens up a site where you can leave him a note outlining our displeasure with Spotify.

You shouldn't even think about not bringing it back! This is a must-have feature we all got used to for years and many of us are using it on a daily basis. This is like a car manufacturer removing the outside door handle and telling its customers that they could very well just reach through the window gap to open the car from inside!

I really don't understand why Spotify would remove what, for many android users, is one of the primary ways of engaging with the app.  The product roadmap should surely based on user need and convenience?  For how I use the app (frequent pausing and resuming for work purposes) this adds a hurdle to my experience and I can't really see the benefit.

Here's a weird idea, it's august 2019 and Android has been around for 12 years. Apps and come and gone, some apps have this thing called a widget, something you can place on your homescreen and control the app from. It works really well and you as a company, who state over and over again how you value your users and that you want to be in the forefront of user experience, should really look into developing one...

Maybe a new widget?  How about bringing it back?  LOL.

Began using spotify from closed beta over decade ago and been paying up happily for the service i got. Now the very basic feature has been taken off and im forced to ios-like world where even the simplest tasks are required to open up the whole program; The one thing what i would not like to do for example when im driving.

Way to go. Luckily there are ways to export playlists to a another service. o/

Removing the Android widget is a terrible mistake, convenient timing though considering my Student Discount just expired; cancelling my subscription & uninstalling until this is fixed, interested to see how doubleTwist is doing these days if it'll be more convenient so be it

Dumb, dumb, dumb. That's all I have to add. Oh, I will be looking for a new music subscription service.

Question for the Staff, really hoping for an answer:

Your own documentation states, among other things, that "The Community team talks with various other Spotify teams several times a month about the ideas that have over 500 votes (our criteria for being a top idea)" and based on these meetings an idea will receive a status update.

This "new idea" was shot down in less than a day, and marked as "Not right now" - which you explain to mean that you already had a discussion on this, and saw that it isn't feasible in the next months or so.

The questions
- if 500 votes is a top idea, what is 10 000?
- When the status became "Not right now", did you actually have a discussion or was this a premade decision like it seemed to be?
