[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

WOW...yet another brilliant move by Spotify. Earlier I had called everyone to send Tom the forum moderator a private message and SPAM his inbox into the next life.  Looks like he has removed the link to his inbox and his name from the Live Idea post.  Yet ANOTHER act of cowardice, lack of vision and plain unadulterated stupidity.

It is looking more and more like the climate of consumerism has changed...permanently...and not for the better  Gone are the days where "The Customer is always right!".  Welcome to the new and "improved" days of "The almighty dollar rules all.  The Customer be d@mn3d!".  Strong work Spotify.  As soon as I can sync my playlists with another vendor, you will have one less Family Plan member to ignore and bully around.  I await with baited breath the announcement that Spotify is filing for bankruptsy due to one too many screw ups...errr..."improvements">

God speed @$$#@+s!  <!|!!

This is absolute bull to be honest. Why should you decide that such a vital function isn't something users would want? Why not make it optional? It's a PAIN IN THE **bleep** to navigate Spotify without it! I don't want to keep my app open, or keep my phone locked.

The removal of the Spotify widget is idiocy, and nothing else, it affects usability of the app and makes it a lot less user friendly and accessible. I shouldn't get this angry, but when someone sits there saying "Oh this very useful part of the app? Let's remove it. No reason. Let's make the app worse." it's just provoking.

I am an iOS user. This doesn't affect me.

That being said, it does affect THOUSANDS of users. I have voted for this widget to come back, because it's not fair for those users, even if I don't use it. You had no reason to remove it.

I'm canceling my subscription by the end of August if you don't bring the widget back ... i think 2 weeks it's reasonable

This is a terrible move.  95% of my use with the Spotify app is the home screen widget.  Very dissatisfied with the removal of the widget.

So how does it work at the Spotify´s decision making?

Is it like: "Hey our company was basically drowning in debts, now we finally got the numbers in green, so why don´t we do something stupid? Any Ideas?" "Let´s remove the widget! Yay!"

Seriously, bring the widget back, it´s one of the most usable features of the app (And hey, there aren´t so many of them). I really do not like the missing space on my home screen 😄 😄

On Twitter, @SpotifyCares replies to users asking us to come here and vote. We come here and are immediately greeted with, officially from Spotify:

Don't tell us you care and tell us you are listening when the reality is you have no intention on bringing this back and you really don't care. You guys, along with all huge companies, decide to remove features with each release while you make incremental fixes to bugs. What's next? "Spotify has decided to remove creating playlists as we believe our curators are making great playlists. This will eliminate users from having to think about music they like and create their own playlist. Like a certain genre or musician? Give our curated playlists a listen!"

My thought is spotify is really trying to make it hard for their users to use their app by changing it constantly and removing useful features. It might be time to switch to something else (like Apple Music or Google Play Music). All other music apps offer a widget to their users because they see it as a useful feature for their users. My vote is everybody give the app a one-star rating on the google play store until they give use back our widget. That would definitely get their attention and actually listen to what it's users are saying.

Dumb, dumb, dumb. That's all I have to add. Oh, I will be looking for a new music subscription service.

On a side note...I did get the Ubiquity Music Widget working finally.  It is still a bit buggy and sometimes crashes.  However I can now access Spotify through that widget.  Interesting that the Ubiquity developers can make the widgest work where the Spotify dev can't...or won't due to some executive whose business degree is still drying from the inkjet printer sitting next to his desk.

It is simple economics people, not neurosurgery.  We demand.  You supply.  You innovate and offer more (not less) functionality.  In turn we spread the word that Spotify listens to their customers and that their content and application is the one to use for music.  What you are doing currently is precisely the opposite.  Just sayin'.
