[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

Like many others, I am also heavily considering stopping my family plan over the removal of this widget and moving to another platform. I used that all the time and going through notifications is not remotely as easy, quick, or intuitive.

I'm a security minded server engineer and minor app developer. I say that to provide some context for this, but due to your removal of the Android widget I have now turned off Play store auto updates and side loaded an old version of your mobile app. That is how much I use this feature. 

 

In the current cut-throat world of streaming services, Spotify must be so confident in their position to start taking functionality away from their paying users. And the absolute blatant slap in the face is to make us 'suggest' this to you as a 'new idea' and then in the thread (that seems to have more "likes" than any other suggestion by 10 fold) to then say that "we have no plans to bring this feature back" instead of saying that you're listening to your community and taking our request seriously. It boggles my mind. 

 

Please get your act together and instead of listening to developers that don't want to maintain a feature (or whatever asinine reason you have) tell whoever it is to pull their finger out and add functionality for those of us that pay for it.

It is so stupid that you expect users to 'suggest a deature' which already exists. Stop being so stuck up, admit that you made a mistake, and fix it.

Every time I swipe over to the screen where my Spotify widget used to be, I pause for a second and wonder how much it cost you to pay the developer who maintained this incredibly useful feature. Should we start a GoFundMe for this? 🙃

This just hinders the convenience of the app, if the app is closed I have to boot it back up again just to hit play, where as before I could just unlock my phone and hit play from my home screen. 

It would be a non issue if the app was lightning fast at booting, but it isn't, even with a solid connection with decent speeds it takes it's time to load.

 

Absolutely daft decision and I can't think a real reason to get rid of it. If it ain't broke don't fix it
