[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

Hello Community!

It has to be "bring back" on all of our Homescreens - it's definetly a step back in the past of the middle age. Thinking about killing my "Family Premium Account and membership", because especially SPOTIFY does ignore one of the best "live ideas", which is "5.354" votes big and was posted in december f... 2013!!!

Come on folks - vote for this feature one more time and SPOTIFY Workers - work...

Just a friendly reminder that the widget was not a unique feature of Spotify. In fact, as far as I can tell, most if not all of Spotify's competitors have widgets, right now, and don't have reputations for gutting features for no reason.

Reinstate the home screen widget, why would you remove a perfectly good feature. I have been a premium member for many years now, and have enjoyed using your service. However, I feel this could be the end if this is the future of spotify to just remove features. Deezer here I come.

The problem with the "Use the notification" alternative the Spotify recommends is that it doesn't account for the fact that some of us running Oreo and later have devices with super aggressive RAM management that kills the app in the background, dismissing the notification in the process. The widget was always right where I left it, and could start playback even if the app had closed out.

I used this feature all the time, especially when controlling other devices!

Spotify gives me more reasons not to pay for the app

Loved the widget - used it daily. Will now probably use my YouTube or Amazon music more frequently...Spotify just made it harder to listen. I truly don't understand WHY you'd remove something that everyone liked, and those who didn't like it didn't have to use it.

I love how you've just dismissed all these complaints as 'not right now'. Welp I am canceling my account 'right now'  Not having a widget is unacceptable to me as well as not considering the large amount of complaints is.

Why remove a feature which is a clear default on any other music player a in the entire ecosystem? You don't e think e there's a good enough reason for it?

This really makes using your app less comfortable which will lead to people reconsidering alternatives..

I've been with Spotify since beta but I'm going to unsub and move to another music platform. Never thought I'd see the day I'd enjoy tidal over Spotify....but the widget is basic **bleep**ing functionality

After reading comments here I understand this is normal behavior for spotify.. I'm gonna h start looking for alternatives, I give it a week before I cancel our family accounts..
