[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

Really really really annoyed that you removed the android widget. I used this everyday and it is way more convenient than using the notification bar. I was so annoyed to find out it just disappeared today without any warning. So sick of android users getting **bleep** over

Any company with 10k + users complaining in 3 days about an update would cancel the update, apologize and perform a rollback. Here is spotify: did you say something? Ah we listened, but ya, nice weather huh?

Just eh, dropping this off here.

APK is on other site, a quick google FROM YOUR GOOGLE WIDGET should you get the correct version

Well actually on a 3 months test on DEEZER...and they have 'family plan' too...and 3 widgets.

Just rolling back will be enough, but apparently you are taking your customers for 'milk cows' just good to pay...Pathetic!

The reasons that they have given for removing the feature don't quite make sense

@kamonthego01, that's because the reasons they have given aren't true.

Bear in mind that:

  1. Spotify have started serving paid advertisements ("announcements" to use their euphemism) to Premium customers.
  2. If you use the Android widget to play music without opening the Spotify app, you don't see ads.

Every happy Android widget user is a user who doesn't see ads.

Now does it make sense? 😉

@duncan_bayne Yes that definitley makes more sense, along with the announcement that they are about to start 'Trialing' higher subscription charges in Norway (I seem to recall the last time they did that the trial cost stayed permanently) maybe they plan to offer an even higher Premium charge for 'announcement' free Spotify, still without the widget of course.

I put Ubiquity on mine for now, I can see myself moving to Deezer quite soon.

BRING BACK THE WIDGET. I just canceled my subscription after many years and have moved to *sigh* GPM

Somebody at  to Spotify needs to actually use an Android phone. Widgets are probably THE most useful feature. We are not all Apple sheep. Bring the widget back now, before I drop my subscription and use a music service that listens to its users

Guys it would be nice if you could make the service better not worse. Clearly loads of people used it and I'm not seeing it replaced with blistering performance or fancy new features. Other streaming services have kept theirs. I'm interested to know how many votes you got to remove it. 🤔
