Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

I am quite surprised that folks are downloading old versions of the app to get the widget back or using apps like Tasker to create a widget. I guess if you are a free listener that is cool but if you are a paying user, I can't understand why you wouldn't immediately dump the service and go elsewhere. That is how you make the point. With your wallet. If everyone finds workarounds to benefit them but still pays to have to make these workarounds, you lose. I switched to Deezer this morning and just realized that I like their app considerably better. I like the web version considerably better as well. I have found everything I listened to on Spotify. Deezer now gets my $14.99 a month for my family plan.

The widget was how I opened the app

The widget was how I controlled playback

The widget was how I checked to see what was playing

Having it on my home screen meant the widget reminded me that listening to Spotify was an option at the moment

Getting rid of the widget makes Spotify (a little) harder to use and (a LOT) less fun

Look at the difference without spotify widget in my homescreen. Having spotify widget and the motion is activated is actually freakin' cool.

@Smurfe I was so disappointed that I switched to Tidal yesterday. Discovered Deezer today and switched again. Also really like it so far.

Well if I have to pay for a family plan with no widgets, I'm switching to YouTube Premium. It offers so much more for $2 more a month. Ad-free, download for offline play, background play, etc. And this is for Videos and Music. A no brainier. Thanks for removing the widget. You helped me to look at the competitors. Something that never crossed my mind when I had the widget.

Canceled my account for now, I do not like and would not use the new features they say they are working on due to this outcry - like 'automix' or playing more from one speaker. You know what I did use, all the time?

Yup, the widget.

'Idea' has over 10,000 votes now in just a few days (and looking around the other ideas available, far surpasses anything else in votes), yet has still not been updated. Not satisfied, I'll use other music apps for now. They all have widgets available.

And for that matter, bring back the version of the widget that let me resize it so it actually filled the width of my home screen instead of a static 1 x 4 😐

Having to access spotify through the notification bar is not ideal especially because it is not always there. Why remove the widget at all? This is not an improvement! Please being it back.
