Clear play queue

I have to restart my spotify when I accendently start a song from a search instead of adding it to the queue (happens often to me), would be lovely if there would be a clear button for all the songs added to the queue by spotify it self.

Updated: 2020-12-17

We're happy to announce that we have implemented the Clear queue feature on our mobile app as well.

Just open the queue and you should see the Clear all button at the top

Hey folks, you can now find a 'CLEAR' button on the Play Queue in your Spotify Desktop app.

If using Spotify on your mobile device you can check the songs in 'Up Next' and then select 'REMOVE'.

Thanks for your feedback everyone!

You have no idea how happy I am to be able to "vote with my wallet" on this issue finally. With the launch of Tidal I have finally been able to cancel my subscription to Spotify Premium and move to a service which allows me to play single tracks, clear my play queue at will and actually queue tracks in a way that makes sense.

And yes, I'm willing to pay twice as much for that ability (and improved audio quality) as I was paying for Spotify.

It's completely unacceptable that you haven't addressed this problem, either with a proper fix or an explanation of why you won't fix it. This thread is closing in on 3 years old now, most or all of the (ridicuolously convoluted) work-arounds have been neutered by "upgrades" and if you do a search for "clear play queue" you get over 500 results. Clearly this is an issue that people want solved. It is far too easy to accidentally click on something that causes my play queue to get filled up with something I don't want.  Throw in the completely unituitive connection between all the apps on various platforms and you've created a usability nightmare. There is no good reason why I shouldn't be able to say "play these songs I've selected, then, when you're finished, stop."

From a technical perspective, unless you've completely stuffed up the code, it should be an almost trivial feature to add, even considering the amount of QA you'd need to do.

I'm really having trouble figuring out why Spotify is so resistant to implementing a feature that is clearly in high demand by so many customers (I'm assuming at least some of the people complaining are current or former paying subscribers). The only thing I can come up with is that they are accruing some benefit from forcing extra plays on unsuspecting users.

I THINK I figured it out.  I hope this works for everyone else.  I went to edit on Spotify app on my computer and clicked "select all" it selected every song in the que except for the album I was actually playing.  I then clicked "delete" and IT DID.  It took me over an hour and irritation to figure this out.  Now it could be a fluke.  Especially becasue I am unable to delete the album I am currently listening too.  I don't think you can select individual tracks to delete.  Hopefully this helps someone else besides me.

Clearing the play queue and having a queue where you can actually queue up multiple songs from different albums - and that doesn't auto play the next album IS A BASIC FEATURE.  Get your act together Spotify.  This is feature that has been in other services for a decade.  Go use RHAPSODY and see how their queue work.  I can't believe a usuable queue feature with manual delete and add features (without all that auto play garbage) isn't part of the Spotify client at this point.  Holy mother of god Spotify.  GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER.

I've tried Spotify a few times in the past. I decided to give it another go as I'm trying to move off of iTunes. I ran into this problem with minutes of using the Spotify app. I can't believe this has been "Not right now" for almost 3 years! This is extrodinarily obnoxious. While the empty playlist solution kind of works, if you've accidentally queued something the only thing you can do is click on it, click next track, then go back to the one you were listening to. Maybe in a couple more years Spotify will be ready to take my money, but not yet. 😛

Anyway we can see this list of priorities and get them in the right order for you?

Unbelivable, still not fixed.

I started my own thread on this in October 2013, not being aware of this one. Came up with a solution then. Lost the solution with an "upgrade". Found another solution. A few months ago people started saying that that workaround no longer worked, because Spotify, apparently alarmed at all the people who were playing empty playlists "by mistake", helpfully made it impossible to do so.

Seriously, I spend months and months using Spotify conscientiously queueing songs rather than playing albums - even when I want to listen to the entire album - just so I can avoid this ridiculous problem. And then every now and then my finger slips or I'm not thinking, and then suddenly the question arises. OMG, how can I fix this, instead of having the same song/album/playlist stuck in my queue from now until my death surrounded by my grandchildren in a few decades time?

The answer given 3 years ago is still fundamentally, spectacularly stupid. "For now if you want to clear your queue you can always play another context (another playlist, album,...) and the queue will be replaced by the new one."  NO. CLEARING YOUR QUEUE AND REPLACING YOUR QUEUE WITH ANOTHER ONE AREN'T THE SAME THING!

I only use the free version of Spotify. This is one crucial reason why Spotify has never received a cent from me. I'm grateful for threads like this one partly because they're letting me know about some of the other available options, because this is a truly basic piece of functionality and Spotify has viewed it as not a priority for several years.

clear_playcue

It's clear that they are in over their head. I'm greatful for the service I do get, but basic things like, if you have a playlist you obviously have a clear button, it's called Standards.

If you ignore the standards that were set before you by all the corporations that came before you and had to already deal with a problem and have already created a solution, then obviously you aren't a good investment as far as finding a company to support through subscrition or investment.

You've already proven that you are maybe a little off because you won't use the millions of examples of the follies of others to avoid you're own embarrasing mistakes. That's just ignorant.

lpwevers

Man, this is so f-ing stupid. All I can say is that it really looks like Spotify is not willing to fix this. The change itself is trivial, so that can't be the issue. Since they don't even bother to respond in over 3 years, that shows how extemely low they regard their users.

Well, at least now all of you know what it feels like, being ignored completely.

Very good Spotify team, keep up the good work. Fortunately for you there are no alternative players available......

For anyone who has been having trouble clearing the songs in the new version of spotify (released March 2015) because the "deleting playlist method" no longer works, try this:

1. Find an album whose last track is unplayable (I used the soundtrack to the film "Wish I Was Here")

2. Double click the last song to play it (in this case, it would be "No One to Let You Down" by The Head and the Heart)

3. The song will be unable to play

4. Restart Spotify

5. Your queue should now be empty
