Clear play queue

I have to restart my spotify when I accendently start a song from a search instead of adding it to the queue (happens often to me), would be lovely if there would be a clear button for all the songs added to the queue by spotify it self.

We're happy to announce that we have implemented the Clear queue feature on our mobile app as well.

Just open the queue and you should see the Clear all button at the top

Hey folks, you can now find a 'CLEAR' button on the Play Queue in your Spotify Desktop app.

If using Spotify on your mobile device you can check the songs in 'Up Next' and then select 'REMOVE'.

Thanks for your feedback everyone!

No kidding. It's 2015. My music players on Windows 95 had queues and a button or easy way to clear them. I actually think there were apps on Windows 3.1 that did the same. I'm an IT professional and I just spent 20 minutes trying to clear Windows desktop program's queue only to give up and find this thread through google.  Are you freaking kidding me? I've been a paid sub for almost 2 years and i am constantly amazed at how terrible my actual experience playing music with the Windows program, web player, and Android app are. Just buy up the corpse of Winamp or something and move the desktop programs into that. Or buy PowerAMP (Android) and add streaming and social. Hell, while i enjoy the social part to send music to friends i'd rather not have it at all if it means I could have a more robust music player instead.

Basic features missing from Windows desktop program:

  • Queue management
  • Equalizer
  • Searching only from within songs you've already starred or added to playlists
  • Inability to 'Play All' starred/saved music, something I do 9 times out of 10 with my music collection in Winamp.

Advanced features missing that most desktop music players have:

  • Inability to add podcasts (dependant on the artist/label creating public playlists and keeping it up to date with their latest radio show/podcast)
  • Visualiztion
  • Library-style song management, like Winamp. Instead of listing Artist and Album, what about displaying music by genre, year, release date/original release year? Spotify offers a list of (not all) songs, Artists, and Albums. Winamp lets me choose how I want to display, sort, or list music based on tags. All things I could do in Winamp in 2003.

Bonus:

  • Smart playlists- Dynamic playlists that list all songs/albums that meet certain criteria- like genre, artist, or year. I have both music and comedy in my local music collection. smart lists allow me to filter out all comedy when I want just music, or just comedy. I can also filter out all comedy and classical music when all I want are more modern songs. Any new audio files I save to my hard drive will automatically appear in these smart lists as long as the tags are, relatively, correct. I never have to update large playlists of types of music or audio to which i listen regularly.

Other notes:

Spotify tried too much to make the desktop app into iTunes. iTunes *bleeping* sucks at everything it does. It's slow, doesn't allow customization, has poor playlist management, and displaying exactly the music you want without searching is often cumbersome. I feel like the devs either never used a quality music player before or management was going for the lowest-common-denomitor (stupid people).

Second time posting on this issue as I've just read the statement regarding why it's not up high on the priority list.
I too feel that this is less of a nice to have but essential to having a - as you call it - perfect product.

As you've said starting a new context solves the solution. So a dirty workaround would be to just start an empty playlist right?

Edit: No empty playlist doesn't count.

To clear the queue in windows version go to queue (bottom of screen to right of "LYRICS")

Select first track in queue (it goes a lighter grey)

Scroll down to bottom one.  Press shift and click on last track (all should be highlughted lighter grey)

Right click in empty space in list

Click "Remove From Queue"

All gone.

A single button would be easier but this takes only a few seconds and does the job

Lachlan,

this procedure is not working for me.  Even removing a single entry via right click, does not work. If I right click, I am offered to add to queue (makes no sense as I am already in the queue), start song radio, save to music, add to playlist, share, copy track link, copy spotifiy uri and copy embed code.   There is no option to remove. Not sure if I am doing something wrong or if we are using different systems. At this stage, I almost beyond caring and might just cancel my subscription going for some alternative streaming service.

Canceled my subscription a while back because of this and after randomly feeling like installing Spotify again I see nothing has changed. Keep on trucking, Spotify.

The same problem. I really would like to have a 'Clear Queue' button. Why is that difficult to implement? The Queue handling is erratic on Spotify on Mac OSX. A clear queue button would help

P3NMAN

This seems to happen because Spotify weirdly uses a mix of Play and Play Queue. Adding to the queue is clearable by just removing from the queue, but if you play a song, it will never leave unless you play something else. Also, if you play an album, then queue something, the queue takes priority, but the played album can't ever be moved or removed. It also seems that you can't add anything to the queue unless there is a played song in the list.

This whole system is a bit ridiculous tbh, surely there's a simpler way to do things? How is this still an issue after all these years!?

bbbblaine

Are you KIDDING ME!?

Spotify has been around for how long now?  And still missing a basic feature such as a "clear queue" button???

I'm ashamed that I even paid $0.99 for the trial...  pathetic.
