Clear play queue

I have to restart my spotify when I accendently start a song from a search instead of adding it to the queue (happens often to me), would be lovely if there would be a clear button for all the songs added to the queue by spotify it self.

Updated: 2020-12-17

We're happy to announce that we have implemented the Clear queue feature on our mobile app as well.

Just open the queue and you should see the Clear all button at the top

Hey folks, you can now find a 'CLEAR' button on the Play Queue in your Spotify Desktop app.

If using Spotify on your mobile device you can check the songs in 'Up Next' and then select 'REMOVE'.

Thanks for your feedback everyone!

This is beyond mind blowing that the function to clear a queue is not available.

It makes me question if they are really supporting this product.

Easily my biggest annoyance.  I often find myself searching for a song and then double-clicking on it to play it, but then it automatically plays down the search result list.  Once I've done that, there's no way to un**bleep** it without switching the playlist to some sort of new context (e.g., an empty playlist), which is really annoying.

I'm a premium user and this is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. It's like you people went out of your way to make Spotify the most obnoxious thing in existence. Every other day I'm asked to restart Spotify with the latest version. Well, how about a version where the "Delete" option isn't grayed out when you right-click on a song in the Play Queue? Are you people totally retarded or something? Do you even use your own product? There is NO REASON for Spotify to do this. It's DUMB DUMB DUMB. I'd love to go on but I think I'm talking to a bunch of European walls.

Everyone complaining of this needs to try Grooveshark. That's how you'll get the attention of Spotify. I've been coming back to Spotify to check on their user interface and I can't believe they still haven't addressed this issue either. The Spotify user interface is horrible because of this feature. That's just one of the reasons I refuse to pay for it. I do subscribe to Grooveshark because it's a better product, it's cheaper, and it runs on smartphones too. Grooveshark isn't perfect, just better. Until Spotify fixes this, I'll only continue to shake my head in disbelief. If they do fix it, I will seriously consider switching.

Having thought about it for some time, I can't think why anyone would want their search results to be their play queue.  That's what makes this whole bloody thing so annoying.

When I search on a song, I want to listen to that song.  Maybe I want to queue up a few more songs I search on (possibly even a couple in the same search results).

But who the hell wants to listen to 50 results for whatever search terms they searched on?  Does anyone actually use it that way?  That seems insane.

What I want is a throwaway playlist so I can search on a few songs and then listen to them and then not have to delete the playlist.  The play queue seems like it's sort of intended for that, but then that's not really how it's designed.  Instead it's designed to play some sort of play queue context that is temporarily overridable by adding songs to it.  That's fine, but it leaves the throwaway playlist functionality as a sorely needed missing feature.

Folks, given that you can't even see what's queued (at least, I can't find a way to do it) makes this pretty frustrating. It's a feature I'd like to see added sooner rather than later.

Here's my workaround.

I sort of created my own remove button.

I created a new playlist called 'AAA click here to clear queue and play'

The 'AAA' should always keep it at the top of the playlists

In the playlist I put one song - which is a few seconds of silence.

Then when I want to clear the queue I just hit this playlist and the queue is gone.

Works for me. Hope it works for you

Great thinking rockside. Whilst the "blank playlist" technique used to work well, thanks to your idea, I've found the following is just as good:

Create a new playlist called <blank> at the top of your Playlist collection
Put in it track 18 from Marilyn Manson's album Antichrist Superstar (it's 4 seconds of silence)

and voila! Every time you want to clear your Play Queue, just double-click <blank>, you hear 4 seconds of nothing and the queue is emptied.

Good stuff!

For anyone who doesn't want an extra playlist, you can follow the steps in my tutorial here to clear your play queue without the need for an extra playlist.

I'm afraid 'not right now' is not good enough. This is not an 'idea' it's a bug or very poor software design which is ruining my enjoyment of Spotify.  I can no longer listen to the music I want to listen to in the order I want to listen to it due to a huge backlog in my play queue that I can't clear! If this isn't a 'basic' feature I don't know what is!

My patience is now wearing very thin on this and I've started my Napster free trial today. If it's any good I'll be canceling my Spotify subscription in the next few days if this doesn't get resolved.

Come on Spotify, you can do far better than this.....
