Clear play queue

I have to restart my spotify when I accendently start a song from a search instead of adding it to the queue (happens often to me), would be lovely if there would be a clear button for all the songs added to the queue by spotify it self.

Updated: 2020-12-17

We're happy to announce that we have implemented the Clear queue feature on our mobile app as well.

Just open the queue and you should see the Clear all button at the top

Hey folks, you can now find a 'CLEAR' button on the Play Queue in your Spotify Desktop app.

If using Spotify on your mobile device you can check the songs in 'Up Next' and then select 'REMOVE'.

Thanks for your feedback everyone!

A "Clear Queue" function couldn't be that difficult at all. I develop software for a living and I'm usually hesitant about declaring an update to someone else's work "easy". I know what it's like when an end user says "That shouldn't be too hard, right?" But come on! How hard could it really be? People are demanding it. Spotify has been around for sometime now. I get prompted to install an update for Spotify just about every other time I run it. How about you throw the "Clear Queue" feature in with one of these gazillion update packages that you release non-stop.  As for  having "a lot of ideas to update" being "hard to prioritize", here's a pointer. Consider ideas that are in high demand and simple to implement first. That would be this one. Spotify If you need a hand in it please contact me.

And just to add to the pile, this is a rather irritating feature not to have, clearing the play queue is pretty basic for any media player. The sooner the better please...

For pity's sake!!!  I find this the most annoying part of Spotify.  And I'm clearly not the only one.

I've been reduced to having a one track playlist (5 seconds of meditation silence) at the top of my playlists so that at least I can almost clear the play queue.  I just want to be able to clear it properly.  Is it too much to ask?  You have obviously coded some kind of ClearQueue method because you clear the queue before repopulating it with another album or playlist.  Please just take the half hour to give us a hook to it in the interface.  We'd all be so grateful.

Are you still reading this thread?  A company that ignores its users requests to get the basics right is showing a depressing arrogance.

"At the moment, the whole team is trying and improving basic features for a better Spotify experience. Once we have a perfect product we will start focusing on good features and ideas." (My markings.)

This is a "basic" feature, and it's a weakness in the software, so you can't possibly call it "perfect" before this is solved, even on your own terms of what Spotify should be. Why? Because Spotify is the only music player I've ever come across with a locked queue! It's really completely crazy how the Spotify team can be so ignorant about it.

It was the first problem I ever discovered with Spotify, and it's still the most annoying one. I really can't believe that this is one of those things that are "hard to prioritize". This should be at the top of the list!

Summarized:

  • It's the most important thing to fix.
  • It's easy to fix.

Yeah,  well,  I'm a software engineer myself. Yet yesterday I made a complete fool of myself trying to change the music for our home birthday party.  No matter what I tried,  the next song would still be Barbara Streisand. You can imagine how hilarity kept rising as more attempts to find ways to clear the queue failed.  Including full restarts/reboots.

And no! Manually clearing about seventy tracks wasn't an option.  Imagine doing this on the Android client... This would easily take 10 full minutes.  Only to result in the same mess the moment one has the audacity to.... Play a track from his search results.

By the way the perfect feature would be "play this album" from search results. Even if the result is just a track from that album.

I'm not going to remain a premium member if this doesn't get fixed. SOON

Oh and now of my friends and relatives are likely to join soon either

A few coments on team spotify's response:

"At the moment, the whole team is trying and improving basic features for a better Spotify experience."

-> How is being able to clear the play queue not a basic feture?

"Once we have a perfect product we will start focusing on good features and ideas."

-> How will you ever be able to create a "perfect product" if you do not listen to the feedback of your customers?

Forcing your customers playlists populated may be a good strategy to boost the numbers of Spotify's usage, though it's not in the interest of the users.

One year later, and this absolutely basic feature that really MUST be in any music playing software, and IS in pretty much all music playing software, and still nothing?   It's beyond absurd.   Why should my basic, everyday use be hobbled so much I have to keep an extra "clear queue" playlist to load up when I want a clear queue?

SERIOUSLY, SPOTIFY FOLKS, STOP ALL OTHER WORK AND DEVOTE THE ENTIRETY OF YOUR RESOURCES TO A FREAKIN' "clear queue" BUTTON! JUST DO IT!

I notice that Google Play All Access has - what do you know! - a "clear queue" button.  Must be all those extra geniuses at Google that allowed them to figure that out.   Why am I paying for Spotify's service again?

I've only used Spotify a few times in the last couple years and everytime I actually use it I'm reminded why I hate it.... NO CLEAR QUEUE option!! And NO LIBRARY!!!!! Two of the most basic features of any player in this modern world. If and when they add these two "features" I'll gladly subscribe in a heartbeat. Until then I'll continue to use Zune Pass and All Access (note these two services have both clear queue/remove from now playing, and integrate your own local files into a library). Oh, and a save queue as playlist would be nice too instead of highlighting everything in your queue and adding to a new playlist.

Like the poster above, I forgot why I wasn't using Spotify, and signed up for a free trial.

I lasted about 5 minutes with this horrible queue, before thinking to myself, "I must be missing something. I'll google it."

When I came across this request thread and Spotifiy's refusal to fix it, I laughed. I literally snorted from chuckling so hard.

As others have said, it's an extremely quick and easy fix, and the only logical reason you refuse to do so is because somehow the queues and playlists are monitized for you.

Then I remembered why I don't use Spotify and have always recommended friends away from it. Between this and the numerous other basic requests which you refuse to make, and it becomes clear that you obviously, truly, and totally have no regard for making your service enjoyable for the those paying you the monthly fee.

Edit: I'm guessing TomR , the person who originally made this simple request, has moved on to another service based on his last log-on date. How many others do you think you lost?

Eklund

This is ridiculous, How God darn hard can it be?

Seriously, this makes you wonder if the spotify team are mentally challanged or not.
