Close Button Closes Spotify [Windows]

Or at least minimize it to a tray Icon. But I would say close it. Maybe this is more of an opinion, but I've only used 2 programs that are this bad. Skype and Spotify. And Skype is a really bad program.  So I don't know why in Spotify, the Close and Minimize button do the same exact thing. I would like a quick way to close the program and stop the musik.  This is mainly a problem for me on Windows 7 and I believe linux is very similar.

Hey everyone. This feature was implemented for Windows users in our latest update (1.0). You can read more about this update here. Thanks for your kudos and feedback here in the Idea Exchange.

This isn't OSX - develop properly for the OS involved, please.  The minimize button is for minimizing, close button for close.  We don't need two buttons to click to do the same thing (minimize).

"We are going to mark this as "Case closed", at least for now, since it does not fit out our user experience philosophy."

Your "philosophy" is backwards.  If your users suggest that doing it one way is sub-prime, that means you fix it or you deal with losing some users.  You're just saying "screw you" with that, and it is blatantly obvious.  There is literally no logical reason to duplicate the functionality of the minimize button with the close button - in Windows, the close button closes the window (what a novel concept).

That's a very easy, quick fix, not a complete overhaul by any means.  It's not the only issue with the program, either - for example, the program doesn't work with my keyboard's volume keys (the volume changes everywhere except for when the Spotify window has focus).

If you want the close button to minimize to the system tray by default, that makes sense. Having it minimize the window is brain-dead design. It's bad enough the app doesn't use a standard Windows interface (I'm sure that custom gray gradient is something you feel very strongly about, but there are standards for a reason - how well does your app function for the visually impaired, for example?), but when you decide that not only does the close button minimize the window, but that there should be no way to change that behavior, your design philosophy is not only overly rigid, it's just plain bad. Take a course in UI design and try again. I'll stick to music players written by people who think their users are intelligent enough to handle the daunting responsibility of knowing which button to click to acheive their goal.

Spotify looks like it has some neat features, but it's back to open source players for me - as usual.

Oh, and if the information in the top comment of this discussion was ever correct, you need to hire a competent programmer. At least one.

So this is being closed? But it goes against everything people understand about the UX of Windows. It's almost as arrogant as everything Apple does...

Couldn't you change it to not right now? just so people can keep commenting on what a crappy idea it was to make the close button minimise.

HEY EVERYBODY WHO IS COMPLAINING:

http://superuser.com/questions/306417/hide-spotify-from-windows-7-task-bar

I was too until I saw that.

I realize this was intended as a feature to keep you from acidently closing Spotify, but in reality it is a bug. If a window has "X" button in the upper right corner the feature of that button should be to exit the program. Period.

There should definatly be an opotion to disable this 'feature' in preferences, or the simply give this button the function it is intended to have! If you're worried about people closing the application by accident, give us a confirmation box before closing, like any normal application!

This bug makes me dislike Spotify a bit more each time I try to close it.

Since this case is closed and Spotify feels that utilizing an industry standard like having the red x close the program "does not fit out our user experience philosophy" I think I will go back to Pandora, Songza, or any of the many other competitors out there.

This red x malarky is a trick. I don't do business with companies that try to trick me.

It was nice knowing you for two days Spotify.

The answer from customer service is laughable.

"Spotify is not designed to be closable from red x."

What a joke.

bradmagnus

This is the most ignorant response ever! "since it does not fit out our user experience philosophy." I'm the user and when I push the red "X" I expect the program to close like every other program in Windows since we stopped using the comand line to launch programs! I want the option like in Skype to actually close the program!

I'm uninstalling Spotify because of this. This is just plain dumb. When you stop listening to your users, you increase annoyance and lose your audience. Simple vetted wisdom.

kshanholtzer

There. I uninstalled it, as promised.
