Close Button Closes Spotify [Windows]

Or at least minimize it to a tray Icon. But I would say close it. Maybe this is more of an opinion, but I've only used 2 programs that are this bad. Skype and Spotify. And Skype is a really bad program.  So I don't know why in Spotify, the Close and Minimize button do the same exact thing. I would like a quick way to close the program and stop the musik.  This is mainly a problem for me on Windows 7 and I believe linux is very similar.

In windows, close button means 'quit application', minimize button means 'keep running in background'.

Your philosophy needs elaboration. I can only guess that it means that in your opinion Spotify needs to run in the background in order to quickly launch from weblinks etc. while not being present in the taskbar at all times.

I can relate to that, but I suggest that there's a different way to approach the same goal in the interface behaviour and settings. In my opinion the current behaviour is puzzling. In order to reach the goals in presumed philosophy above:

- spotify service start on windows login: spotify in systray (turn systray option on/off in settings)

- close button quits application but keeps spotify in systray (turn systray option on/off in settings)

- minimize button minimizes application to taskbar

Same effect, but option to override in settings. Everybody happy. No?

I'm not saying that Spotify are making it this way because of what I just thought of, but it's certainly a pro.

Spotify uses p2p, right? So therefore if it's running in the background, it increases the speed of Spotify for everyone else by using a little of your network and CPU resources. Naturally, making it harder to close means some users won't bother closing it and will just leave it in the background. Therefore, a faster Spotify which is using up a little of that users network and CPU (which personally I don't care about as Spotify needs p2p to run, but I'm sure there are users that do care about it).

But anyways, it just crossed my mind!

The "x" button can be set (via the right click menu on the system tray icon) to close to the system tray instead of minimise.

Idea: If you can't close with the close button, maybe have an option to stop playback and minimize to tray? there is currently an option to minimize to tray on close, but it continues playing the music. I wouldn't mind the program not actually closing if it actually stopped playing. 😕

This is the most ridiculous design idea I have ever heard of. It's not user experience philosophy, it is bad practice, crappy design/coding and needs to be changed ASAP.
