Close Button Closes Spotify [Windows]

Or at least minimize it to a tray Icon. But I would say close it. Maybe this is more of an opinion, but I've only used 2 programs that are this bad. Skype and Spotify. And Skype is a really bad program.  So I don't know why in Spotify, the Close and Minimize button do the same exact thing. I would like a quick way to close the program and stop the musik.  This is mainly a problem for me on Windows 7 and I believe linux is very similar.

If they do this. It would be the most annoying thing ever (i'm sure they would somehow manage to do it completely, and not appy a preference to choose).

Everyone at parties would keep closing spotify, again, and again.

Many other programs work this way, among them, the popular game platform Steam and some email clients also tend to do it.

I see it like this:

You have 4 options to deal with:

Minimize,

Full screen,

Minimize to taskbar,

Close the program completely.

I feel like they did the right thing to pick the easisest to hit button to do the least "damaging" actions. Therefore, if you either minimize, go full screen og minimize to taskbar, you wont do anything you will not be quickly able to undo, and you will not accidentaly stop your playlist.

Then if you really want to go on and close the program, you have to right click and press the button in the taskbar, this for me makes you certain that what you are doing is really what you want to do, and not by accident.

Also. I think 17 pages of the same comment is a bit excessive.

I think this minimize to tray is becoming a more and more "in" option to have, as computers evolve and are able to handle all theese background apps running. So maybe windows should add the possibility for developer to use a fouth button in the corner, which shows a special minimize to tray icon, and then they should be able to disable the red X if they feel it fits their program. Then it would be easier for Spotify to add a preference whether or not to disable the red X completely, and then still have the new special minimize to tray button.

However i doubt this will be done to the OS anytime soon. I just think that it would fit in, in todays GUI designs.

But that is just my 2 cents.

@papand13: Preaty neat logic. I propose that to keep the user from using "damaging" actions by mistake, everytime someone presses the Close button a message box should pop up asking "Do you really want to close?" if they really want to close they must click "OK" and another identical message box should appear, repeating this 17 times. I think 17 pages, sorry: 17 times is fairly enough to know if the user really intended to close the application and rule out any possible mistake. But as you say, disapearing the X button should be the best way to go, the developer should have the right to protect the user against the cold and cruel world where his application is not running always and forever. Also, retard.

The close button literally does the exact same thing as the minimise button. If the aim is simply to avoid people accidentally pressing it then why have the button at all? It's completely useless and only exists to annoy anyone who foolishly thinks that the close button might actually close the program.

This is being disregarded by the developers.  I have the feeling the "consideration" is an attempt to appease without intent to fix.

Come on, Spotify designers, fix this annoying thing.  When I click the X, I want Spotify to fully close.  I don't want it to to remain in my Windows 7 task bar.

It would be nice to have the option to make the -X- do what I want it to do. I understand you have your reasons for making the close and minimize buttons do the same function, but I would appreciate the ability to change that function to something more standard and suitable to my liking.

Because of licensing issues, where our servers reside and such, I am shut out of Pandora at work. (Licensing issues, servers not in the US tho that's where I reside/work.  Otherwise, I wouldn't be here.)

Installed Spotify... gets good reviews, looked liked a good alternative.  And it seemed to be.  (Different, but I can get used to certain differences in software, interfaces, etc.)

Then I tried to close Spotify in the middle of the day when I didn't want it even visible on the desk top.   It wasn't memory resource issue... purely business reasons.  Used my 3rd alternative standby of launching Task Manager to close Spotify. 

Making sure it wasn't my usual ID10T error I looked here for answers. Then I looked over all these threads regarding "the 'X' button to close Spotify" discussion.

Over two years (really?) of discussion and nearly all of it says users want X button to close application.  And yet it hasn't been changed?  So much for customer service and response to users. 

'X' = close... period.  End of discussion... developers should make it happen.  Convention old as Windows V1.0 (and Linux and etc.) 

If developers keep thinking the users will bend to their will with convention changes to UIs... better get over yourselves. 

Don't take a stand like Google Chrome::  Users don't NEED a Menu bar, therefore it's not even an option.  People WANT the menu bar. 

People WANT the 'X' button to equal "close/end/exit".  (And while I hate the "Are you sure?" pop-up, there's some user validity for that approach.)

Spotify has been on my computer for about 24 hours.  Because of this simple matter and over two years of not responding to users' desires...

GOODBYE, SPOTIFY.  

(I doubt Spotify really cares whether I am a subscriber or not.  Since this issue has been ongoing, I guess they don't. But I only pay for software/access, etc. that behaves the way I want it to behave.)
