[Desktop] Restore Cache Location Specification

I run on a machine with a small SSD for my OS and critical applications.

In previous versions of Spotify I have set my cache to my larger hard drive. Now this is no longer possible.

Now I am constantly having to manually clear my cache and am unable to specify where I want the files to be kept.

This needs to be restored.

Updated: 2015-07-08

Hey everyone, this feature is returning in the 1.0.9 Desktop update. That update is currently rolling out and should reach everyone quite soon.

I agree with all the above. If you chose to ignore this and not fix it within the next two weeks you will lose me as a paying subscriber. Spotify would in that case just not be a suitabal service for me.

It's bad enough that you can't choose an install location, now you can't choose cache location either! My SSD space is too precious so I'm forced not to use this program anymore.

klausk

I completely agree with this.

I see no reason to clog up my main drive with temp files that don't benefit from the extra speed of an SSD and I see no reason of burdening my internet connection with repeated downloads of all that I listen to when the temp folder gets too little space, whilst also suffering the added latency when starting new tracks. I want my music files in a large folder on a separate drive.

Why this would need to be removed from even the advanced settings I cannot understand.

if this will not be possible next weeks, i will not be a premium member any more..

Zallun

How could anyone even think it would be a good idea to remove that feature!? That's just ridiculous... Do you guys even use your own software?

There is an advanced button in the options. Why not just put this "advanced" option there (as it used to be iirc)!?

A workaround seems to be the "prefs" file (no extension) in the %AppData%/Spotify folder. Open it with a Text-Editor and add the following line:

storage.location="D:\\Spotify_Cache"

Change the path to suit your needs

hi,

sorry, this is not working out. added the line but nothing changed.

the prefs file is under roaming folder

WTF serious? just updated and noticed the cache directory is now gone, premium member here. I will be glad to leave if you dont provide this function back to save SSD space as everyone mentioned (even if symlinking will work anyway).
