Discount Family Subscriptions!

Before I made the switch from Rdio to Spotify they (Rdio) came up with a pricing model that allowed families to purchase a slightly discounted subscription.

$9.99 for single unlimited user

$17.99 for 2 family members (20% discount)

$22.99 for 3 family members (50% discount)

Would love to see a similar pricing model so the rest of the family could get in on the action!

Hey folks! We've introduced Spotify Family. With Premium for Family, you and up to 5 members of the same household can each enjoy their own Premium account. All for one discounted price of $14.99.

Thanks for your kudos in the Community--we want your feedback.

It's been over a year since this news article http://www.techradar.com/news/internet/spotify-to-introduce-family-plans-1070812 indicates that spotify is about to release family plan functionality.  It seems like this idea has been abandoned by the Spotify.  I'm moving my 3 family subscriptions over to Rdio since i've waited long enough.

If you've got multiple people sharing a family account (hopefully at reduced rates for multiple members), the artists will get more money, because more people will be listening to their tracks. So what is the problem, Spotify unable to offer a good enough discount to make it workable?

Kids both got iPads for Christmas last year and are wanting access to music. I have heard that family memberships are on there way but I don't think I can hold them off much longer. Rdio is an inferior service but paying $40 a month is not in the budget. Hope it's sooner rather than later guys. Thanks

I definitely concur with this one. My girlfriend and I "share" a Spotify account (she doesn't have me fully converted from Pandora to Spotfiy, but it's on my credit card, so she kind of won), and we have to coordinate who can have access to streaming when. And I would be more than willing to pay extra (I'm not sure about $17.99, but I could get with $14.99/month) for two users to share the same account. Even if there's a cap on the amount of devices we can use, that's fine. I use Spotify on my computer, she uses it on her tablet. So a two-device cap would work swimmingly. But to have Spotify keep pausing my music, as I'm on the I-5 freeway? That got annoying. I eventually switched back to Pandora for the remainder of my drive - a service where they don't charge extra for multiple devices streaming at once. And their prices are lower, to boot.

Things to consider, Spotify.

You don't need to add family accounts, a competitor will mimic your service soon enough and offer this smart option. I'm happy to give my money to them. C YA

I support this, is this just a thread or a petition?

If you need inspiration on how to get this right from the beginning, just have a looks at how Netflix does it! My standard subscription allows me to stream to 2 devices simultaneously and for a small added fee I can stream to 4 device - my choice. Oh and with the new introduction of profils I now even don't have to get recommendations based on the kids' choices.

I love the spotify service, but you really need to step up on this!

No need to repeat what has already been said 23 pages full. If there will be no added family rates (what's wrong with using a similar scheme as Rdio?), I will walk away elsewhere. I have a 3 girls that are big time into music and a wife who wants to create her own playlists and not rely on whenever one of us has time, so that would be a whopping 50 Euro (in my case) of monthly donation to Spotify. No way that's going to happen.

Can Spotify please share their current thinking on this topic and even discuss this here? That's what fora are for, right? Just it being considered without timelines for decision is as good as no answer. Thank you!

i have been a spotify premium member since the beginning. However with a growing family we are now spending £30.00 per  month on Spotify, soon to be £40.00.

I really cannot justify this , and will have to look at other options if there is not a family plan. I would be happy with £10.00 for the first member and then for every other member £5.00. I would even accept that the additional accounts be tied to two devices (potentially IOS/Android and one laptop) this should be enough for most kids.  Without something different here I am going to jump when a provider appears with a plan that works for me , which is a shame because I really like Spotify.
