Discount Family Subscriptions!

Before I made the switch from Rdio to Spotify they (Rdio) came up with a pricing model that allowed families to purchase a slightly discounted subscription.

$9.99 for single unlimited user

$17.99 for 2 family members (20% discount)

$22.99 for 3 family members (50% discount)

Would love to see a similar pricing model so the rest of the family could get in on the action!

Hey folks! We've introduced Spotify Family. With Premium for Family, you and up to 5 members of the same household can each enjoy their own Premium account. All for one discounted price of $14.99.

Thanks for your kudos in the Community--we want your feedback.

I'm waiting until the end of the year (2013), and if this option is still not available then I am cancelling my subscription. I never would have thought unlimited music would cost me more than unlimited TV and movies let alone not being able to use 1 account for an entire family.

I'm pretty close to fully swithing to Rdio because the lack of multi user support.

There needs to be an update on whether or not this is coming...

Yeah. Kinda ridiculous that this doesn't already exist.

A year of Spotify is far more expensive for 3+ people than Netflix, Hulu Plus, and an Amazon Prime annual subscription - COMBINED. All of which allow multiple people to use a subscription to watch movies/television.

Also, Rdio has it... and soon, they'll have my family as customers if there isn't soon an announcement around this.

Ditto,

seeing how long this has been "under consideration" it needs fixing fast. Personally, I don't think it should (only) be done by a discount on multiple subscriptions, but, prefeerably, by being able to pay extra for multiple streams on a single account. With multiple devices around the home, especially, constantly having to relog on, because another family member was previously using that device, would be unbelievably painful!

I stopped using Spotify a year ago when my wife bought me a Sonos with a 6 months free subscription to Napster for Christmas.  I've paid for the £10/months subs for the remainder of this year but wanted to come back to Spotify for the better;

- Mac OS X application (Napster on the Mac appears to be such a neglected afterthought in comparison)

- Streaming rates

- Radio playlists

Unfortunately, only 1 streaming device at a time is a real deal breaker and guaranteed to disrupt my marital bliss 🙂  I don't consider my scenario unique either.  I also wouldn't enjoy switching personal accounts on the Sonos all the time to workaround a Spotify limitation.

Hope Spotify sorts the licensing out one day as I really would prefer to give you my subs.

So this is basic business modelling that they are using as a reason for not hurrying. If it means that.....

  • the average user is paying multiple subscriptions for their family at full price and therefore would pay less if a family subscription was introduced, and
  • they are not losing customers because no-one else offers this capability and their users are not voting with their feet

Then why on earth would they introduce it ? All it will do is reduce their revenue. When they are under pressure to pay more to the artists, the last thing they need is their income line reducing from introducing this.

I'd say there is absolutely no likelihood of this being introduced any time soon.

Don't stop at three... four family members using Spotify in my house.  Get me a plan for all 4 and I'll go premium... promise!  Best GM

Hey

Its soon 2 years. When will you implement it?

It´s really annoying that I can´t listen on a playlist at the same time as my Girlfriend are listening on hers.

I know that you can do playlists offline but still.

I feel like premium accounts should allow 2 streams (devices) at a time.  Then charge an extra $5 per stream to add more.  Simple and affordable.  This whole one stream at a time thing is really limiting for couples / families. Sorry, I just don't see people wanting to shell out $20+ per month on music for their families.
