[Discover] Exclude selected Playlists from Taste Profile and Discover Suggestions

I play music off Spotify for my bubba to fall asleep to. This is typically classical/meditative relaxing style tracks. Since she sleeps 4 times a day this type of music is getting a LOT of playtime but is not representative of my music taste. I'm finding my Discover Weekly (which I LOVE by the way) is moving more away from my music and more towards the classical/chill out stuff I play for the little one.

Would be super cool to be able to mark a playlist to exclude it from the Discover algorithm.

Thanks!

Hey folks,

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange and voting to make this happen.

We're happy to announce that Exclude from Taste Profile feature is now available on all platforms. There's more info about the topic in our Newsroom Article.

If you'd like to give it a try right now, follow the steps below:

  1. Select the playlist of your choice.
  2. Tap the three dots near the top of the playlist.
  3. Select “Exclude from your Taste Profile.”

Once again, thanks for helping us make Spotify better, by participating here on the Community 🙂

Absolutely agree. I am now thinking to seek another for my sleeping playlist. There should be more like the private mode to exclude what I am listening for the moment from statistics. My 2016 palylist is amazing, while my 2017 is a terrible mix of random meditation music and songs I really like.

I can’t seem to vote for this, but I would like to add my voice to this - would really like to see this feature added.

i love discover weekly - it’s my go to - BUT - I don’t like the fact that at the moment, because I listen to a sleep mix to help me sleep each night this playlist has much too large and influence on each weeks playlist and I can’t stop that so all my playlist music is now pretty mellow and soporific! Even though beautiful!
We should be able to turn off influencing things when we know it’s not what we are after for a weekly list.

I agree. I used to listen to discover weekly on a regular basis, but I no longer do since now mine is filled with baby sleep tracks.

I would also very much like this! I've only been using the Sleep playlist for about a week, but my Discover Weekly is super out of wack. Thankfully, I don't hate what I'm hearing, but it's not what I want. I'm gonna have to stop using the Sleep playlist at night and go back to my 8-hour YouTube videos.

It would be great if you implement this! The music discovery algorithm is the main reason I love Spotify and pay for it. This week it got taken over by ocean sounds that I listen to while sleeping..

Please, please, please add this feature!

My discover weekly has become useless for reasons similar to other posters. I listen to piano or meditation music to sleep, but am only looking to find new music that I can listen to during the day.

This could be solved with an "exclude from recommendation engine" under playlists. Then use the list of songs in those playlists to essentially create a blacklist or by significantly de-weighting of all songs on that playlist for recommendations.

@osornios my idea here is not a duplicate of this; whilst they are for the same purpose, this idea is relative to playlists which would require the user to create a new playlist just to be able to listen to the "not preferred" music--making it almost cumbersome and may become difficult to manage or keep on top of in social situations--while my idea is simply a toggle to turn off Spotify's learning function and would allow the user to choose any music they wanted and listen there and then without having to create and add to a new playlist.
