Full screen playback info and visuals (Desktop)

When you have a nice evening at home with some friends, music playing in the backgound, one question is raised every time and at least once:

- Wow, this is a great song. Who is performing this? From which album is it? Wasn't this guy playing in another band a few years ago?

Unfortunately, the desktop app is at the moment mainly focused on navigating and searching for music and not at all on the graphical / visual experience of the music being played.

On the iOS app this is far better, because you can swith to full screen mode to a static view of the front-side album art, song title and artist name. For starters, this would already be a great addition if this feature would be available for the desktop app as well.

But there are a lot more opportunities to improve the visual experience.

The best one I've experienced so far is a specific skin in XBMC/Kodi: Aeon MQ 5. It combines album art, artist art, artist biography and lyrics in one full screen view. The artist art is even dynamic and changes at a certain interval.

I added a screenshot to give you an impression.

Although there already are some ideas posted about bigger album art, I didn't see any idea's yet about the whole visual experience while listening to your music. Therefore I decided to post this idea.

Anyone else who is missing this or would like this to be developed? Or is it just me?

Hey everyone. We're happy to confirm this idea is now Implemented. Currently on Desktop users can go to fullscreen via the fullscreen icon at bottom right on now Playing Bar. This is available within any context so users can watch videos fullscreen as well as experience listening to playlist, podcast in this mode also.

Thanks as always for your continued feedback!

This goes back to the Playstation (1 or 2 I can't recall), but what I really liked about it as a kid was how when I played music, it would display cool videos and images of a cube falling through a tunnel changing colors accordingly to the song or even just the simple music waves that rise up or fall down with the song's tempo. This is not only aesthetically pleasing but would add a nice touch to a party if you have music hooked up to a screen. Picture this: you walk into a house party that has neat lights hooked up with some good music playing with the source of that music being a cell phone hooked up to a LED tv that has some psychedelic visuals dancing along with the bass and treble, changing colors as the playlist progresses. It would be a nice additive to the party mood and also gives the more introvert party goer something to look at while enjoying a nice drink or chat with another person.

I am not too sure if this idea has been mentioned before but I would like to see these neat visuals come back.

Functionality like this would be awesome to include in a future Spotify app for Apple TV

It's here! Finally! In the latest update there is a fullscreen toggle next to the volume slider. Hope this gets developed further to add next/previous album cover like on Chromecast and not just the current track and it would be way nicer to look at if the backgrund where a blurred version of the album cover like it is on the mobile apps instead of the static gradient gray like it is now.

I'd absolutely LOVE a visualizer. A tiny album cover on a 42" 1080p monitor is disappointing; it'd be amazing to see lyrics, wallpapers, audio visualisers, be creative. 😄

wow.. So this idea has been up since 2015.. Untill today I never felt the need for an audio visualiser, but this evening I came home wasted and was enjoying some music when I realised that back in the "old days" of windows media player and winamp and the likes you had the option to turn on these awsome visualisations.. however today I found myself staring at this boring grey music play, with some album covers and a tiny block moving across a line.. How is this possible? How did the old music players manage to show these visuals and a modern day music player (wich I pay for) doesn't have this possibility?

so my drunk conclusion; either I'm too drunk to figure out how to turn on the visuals or Spotify has to fix this now.. look at your oldtime predecessors and get it done.. now

Have you guys made this happen yet!? I'd love to have a full screen experience going right now.

Thanks

It looks like this new feature is still a test rollout for some random users, not everyone has it yet.

For people who have an htpc this is a must. Having a still image like that can cause burn in on your TV screen. Not cool, Spotify. I signed up for a trial, but if there's no way to prevent burn in on the big screen I won't be converted to a paying customer.

I would also love a visual screen to leave my Spotify app on (I'm on Mac). After starting a playlist, I would prefer to look at something prettier 🙂

Edit: I see the fullscreen option now! So since I can't delete this comment, I'll just say thank you and please keep adding to it!
