Integrate HTML5 with play.spotify.com

With the new Xbox one coming out and it not supporting flash, I believe Spotify needs to revamp their play.spotify.com site to support HTML5 also, flash is a bit old, isn't it? I think this will greatly improve the experience on the site as well. <br><br>Thank you.

Hey everyone! We can confirm this very popular idea is now fully implemented.  The new Web Player uses HTML5 technologies solely. Thanks for your continued feedback in the Idea Exchange!

Hey there Spotify,

I am a paid subscriber, because I enjoy my Spotify when I sit at my computer for long spells at my job. Unfortunately, because my employer's IT policy prohibits the unauthorized downloading of any software, I have only been able to use the Spotify Web Player rather than the actual app while at work. For several years now, that has worked just fine.

Imagine the unpleasant surprise that I received this morning when trying to open my Spotify Web Player and a box popped up telling me that "to enjoy Spotify, please install Adobe Flash. It's free." Well, being free is all fine and good, but I cannot download Flash because of my employer's no-download policy - ergo, I can no longer enjoy Spotify at my desk at all.

So - I do NOT think that Flash is a good idea. Spotify's Web Player worked just fine for me all this time, and I would be quite happy if you would remove this supposed improvement and put it back the way it was. Otherwise I see no reason to keep subscribing. 😞

Thanks,
Hesh Meister

Hello Hesh. Of course I have no idea of your work IT policy, but if I were
to guess, the reason you can no longer use the web player from your work
computer is because your IT department has tightened security, by removing
the use of Flash from your web browser.

This thread has had many replies from users such as yourself who cannot use
their paid subscription from their work computer, because of this Flash
issue.

If I understand your post, I think your conclusion is backward. You can no
longer use Flash from work. And to utilize your paid subscription from your
work computer again, you need Spotify to step up and join the Twenty-first
century. By changing FROM FLASH, to using an alternate current coding
standard - such as HTML5. As a fellow paid subscriber, I feel your pain.
And we are not alone.

To add: also Steam Big Picture/OS can't do anything with flash!

Please get rid of it

I'm someone who refuses to install Flash. It is an incredible dangerous bit of software to have installed on any computer. I actively block it and remove it from every computer I use. Please move to a different medium. I find it incredible to believe that it is only possible with Flash.

You do realize that all major browsers will drop their support for flash completley at some point (probably very soon). How short-sighted are you to just stop developing your Web-App. I really hope you are already working on a new site, otherwise I guess I (and a lot of your customers) will stop using Spotify.

Very sad to be honest...

how can i get spotify to work again without wanting to download flash.

@Xathereal chrome has stopped supporting flash for a couple of weeks now.

SSMIKER

I can't believe they still use FLASH.  Flash is blocked on all my corporate devices and not even supported by a lot of platforms anymore.

This will help Linux users as well! No having to deal with changing PPAs to install flash.

I thought a company like spotify would be one of the first to embrace HTML5
