if I had to guess, I'd imagine the reason the web player is still using flash is due to the DRM in HTML5. The current DRM spec is not standardized yet. Generally, programmers avoid using non-standardized things because the spec can change suddenly and break previously functioning code. Also it just makes more sense to wait until it does become standard than to spend extra time writing code that will most likely need multiple rewrites each time the spec is changed and/or browser support changes.
Also there's a large population of people who don't want DRM in their browser at all, so it's entirely possible(though not likely) that the DRM spec will get nixed and they'd have to resort to using flash again anyway.
Wake up, Spotify! Many of us can no longer run Flash at work because of security reasons.
You are losing customers and YOU ARE LOSING MONEY!!! People have been asking for an HTML5 player for years now. Get on it!
Please, let us unninstall the crapware that is the flashplayer...
No universal app for Windows 10 (Desktop, phone and xbox one), neither a HTML5 web player, but a flash security risk player?
Please wake up Spotify! You are gonna loose the game to apple, microsoft, pandora, rdio etc. if you continue this lack of support.
I have been a customer now the last 10 years, but now considering looking elsewere. And that is a shame.
Avoid Flash, is CRAP.
Spotify has PLENTY of money to create a HTML5 web interface.
Please, listen to the community!
With the amount of security issues within the last weeks I would say it's time to say goodbye to flash...

I'm already a happy paying customer elsewhere (I will not mention out of respect) but I would come back if they implimented a player without Flash.

Hey everyone! We can confirm this very popular idea is now fully implemented. The new Web Player uses HTML5 technologies solely. Thanks for your continued feedback in the Idea Exchange!
