Add "remove video content" option to Spotify Family

Please add an option to "remove video content" to Spotify Family! Since video podcasts were added, my children now watch videos on Spotify instead of listening to music.  I had given them unlimited access to Spotify (unlike other apps) because it was only used for music.

All you'd have to do is add another toggle for "remove video content" next to "Remove explicit content".

Spotify Kids is not an option for us.  My children are teens and tweens.  And because they're teens and tweens, they have a very difficult time turning off compelling video content (just like some adults).  If Spotify becomes just another screen to stare at, I'm not sure we want to keep our Family membership.

@BLMU yes, I'm an Android user too and you juste have to create a pin code on each device into theApple Music App to desable video content. Easy to use.

SoulDraconus

@minhtam78 good to know apple does that. How are the parental controls? Seems like most platforms either do well on video controls or parental but not both.

@SoulDraconus :

for parental control in general (screen time, management of authorized apps, etc.) I use Google Family because we are all on Android. It is only in the Apple Music application on my children's phone that I have created a specific pin code to disable videos on Apple Music. But I keep on managing use time on Google Family.

We do the same for time, but Google Family doesn't let you manage content restrictions for non-Google apps. Spotify let's you set the exploration content filter for each member, while Pandora has an all or nothing filter for everybody in the account but doesn't have videos. What's Apple's like?

Here what you can manage after creating a pin code in Apple Music app (you have to do that on each device)

Indeed I'm french but I guess it shows what you ask :

My kids alerted me that it’s pushed to kids by Spotify to watch explicit and harmful content using no moderation whatsoever of these podcasts feature. I was supporting Spotify against Apple as their are not a big corporation. But seems Apple is the company wo cares about our kids and not about profit like Spotify does. I’m Apple user and switching account was alway more convenient. Now Spotify crossed the line of not addressing this problem for years. Making dirty money on my kids is not something I will tolerate.

It's ridiculously easy to implement a simple switch to disable video podcasts, and Spotify still isn't able to do it after 400 votes. I'm going to cancel our family subscription now and switch to Apple Music. Embarrassing for such a big company.

I caught my daughter watching videos on Spotify that were compilations of violent and explicit videos ripped from TikTok. She had been watching it secretly on headphones while pretending to play video games on her PC for hours. She didn’t search for it. She didn’t know what it was. I’m going to move our family to a music app that only has music because I’m not a big fan of my kids being recommended compilations of violent beatings when I thought I was giving them access to Taylor Swift and The Beatles.  It is bad enough you recommend it and can’t keep metadata on what is explicit, but there also is no way in the UI to flag the content as inappropriate or say you don’t want to see things like it.

Here is to parents (temporarily) removing the Spotify app from their kids iPhones:

Once an application is installed on iOS - your kid can re-install without your permission!
If you have cancelled your Spotify Family account, they can still (re)download Spotify and watch video podcasts for free.
I have not yet found the key how to permanently block apps for your kids, if ever once approved (like you have all done for your kids, otherwise you wouldn't be here).

So what to do?

Make sure Spotify is installed on your kid's iPhone.
Then on the parent device navigate to Screentime > and set the Spotify limit to 1 minute.
So if they will reinstall the app, they can not exceed 1 minute.

Credits to my 11 year old for finding all possible loopholes...

So how should Spotify restrict this video content? Well in iOS there is a standard feature, which unfortunately doesn't work for Spotify. It does work for Apple Music & Apple Podcasts:

Setup your family plan.
Go the the 'Content & Ristrictions' settings. And from the 'Content' menu select 'allowed store content' for Music Videos to be off.

Result:

Apple Music: your child can no longer watch Music Videos in the app.
Apple iTunes: the podcast with video will still play, but WITHOUT video. (it will remain frozen at the first frame)
Spotify: well, you have guessed since you are on this page: nada, nothing. Just trying to get your child more and more addicted.
