[All Platforms] DJ Version of Spotify

I'm a DJ. I want a DJ interface for Spotify, where I can play two tracks at once over the top of each other.

It doesn't have to be anything complex -- just two tracks and a crossfader would do the job. But if you fancy adding things like waveforms, pitch-shifting, and other functionality, that would be lovely too.

Hey folks,

Thanks for coming to the Community, and adding your vote to this idea!

After speaking to the right teams, we're keeping this idea as 'Not Right Now', as this isn't something we have any immediate plans to implement. We appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

As flagged in the last status update, our friends at Algoriddim have an app called djay that allows you to mix tracks using Spotify. You can check out details about djay here.

If we do have any new info to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

Thanks.

  • I think you should be able to buy songs off of spotify. As an upcoming Dj, this would come in handy so much. Whenever i cant find a song on beatport, or any other platflorm like itunes; I seem to always find it on spotify and that really bugs me! Let me cop the songs I need!! 😫🫵

As a DJ at a party or dance you have to be super careful you don't accidentally click the song instead of the 3 dot menu on the side, because if you do it'll immediately play it and stop playing the playlist you've got. In DJ mode there needs to be a second "confirm play" button to verify you want to switch the song. There can also be other features around making a que to fit the vibe of the dance that looks like the "add to playlist" feature. It can group songs by their vibe so the dj can simply go to said list to pick the song for the vibe rather than scan the entire playlist for the right one.

I'm sure there could be more dj inspired features in the DJ mode but the option could be toggled from the settings.

DJ function like:
Display of beats per minute
Filter by beats per minute
Filter by year or decade
Customizable beats per minute (slower faster) of a song like a DJ booth for transitions
Sort playlist by beats per minute
Event playlist, a playlist that visitors to an event can access using a QR code, for example. Then the possibility to push the songs there via Like per account and then give the creator the possibility to quickly put songs from this event into the right playlist.

Listen to two songs at the same time as well as a podcast and control the volume of each.

Hello, the DJAY app from Algoriddim was mentioned here as a temporary solution. Unfortunately, I cannot find any Spotify integration in this app. Where should that be then?

Spotify Dance Parties. Amateur mixing. Unbelievable fun!

Simple version - easy to implement:

Tune in to users/artists livestreaming their own playlists, which can be modified in real time based on listener feedback. Feedback/interaction need not rely on comments; could be a like or dislike reaction button, and ability to request a song.

Not-so-simple version - but possibly revolutionary if implemented

(could be an exaggerated statement... Or?):

Actual seamless mashup functionality. Think extra-simplified DJ setup interface. Choose BPM with continuity across all songs in set. Ability to layer song bites on top of each other, repeat, modify tone pitch etc. Interface so easy anyone can be a DJ. Can be livestreamed or pre-constructed. Spotify as a legit sample audio engineering tool? Um YES.

I can expand on this if anyone is intrigued by this idea. Not a lawyer so not sure of copyright legality when users sample and modify songs - but no monetary compensation would be involved. DJ rewarded with fun times and community acknowledgement.

Artists can furthermore provide access to their own sound bites ripe for sampling. "Two measures of the SICK drum beat that starts at 1:29"

"Me singing those MINDBLOWING verses"

"Get that wa-wa-wa sound you hear in this song that makes her belly flutter with desire"

Jk, such descriptions are unnecessary... Or are they?

OR simply allow user to snip 5-15 seconds of any part of any song, which go into a Spotify user's library of samples. Again, not sure of legality here but these samples would ideally only be useable within the app. Artist could receive compensation for parts snipped - though there are benefits for relatively unknown artists to offer samples for free. More on this later.

The addictively fun nature of cutting and pasting up songs will no doubt be worthwhile for all stakeholders involved.

And then sharing your work with the Spotify community? GRATIFYING.

Be an artist without actually being a Spotify artist!

Be a Spotify artist and get recognition from your song being sampled by a wildly popular user-generated mix.

Everyone wins! 😄

Dear spotify,

I would absolutely love an option, or maybe an entirely new app, to allow users to mix and edit transitions in playliste, allowing users to become DJ's and create set lists with music from spotify. I hope you can make it happen!

Hi!

I think Spotify should add a feature where there’s a dj mixer board where the person with aux can mix different notes and beat drops and can make cool transitions into other songs, there could also be a feature where there’s a record button and u can record your mixes and reuse them or maybe even post them on Spotify. just like general features from a dj mixer board but simplified.

The idea of “Song Mixing,” would be a further extension to Crossfading and would allow the user to be their own “DJ.” (Locked behind premium feature?) With any two songs of the users selection the user can slowly adjust the volume level of each song accordingly to mix songs. With AI each song’s instrumental/vocals could also be adjusted. (Side note: if this was possible it still might be a fun idea but not the main focus.) After “mixing” the user can choose to place whatever is next in queue to mix. (PS: Not suitable for Car Mode)

Hi,

Before You could use Spotify playlists and songs with different DJ SW. Now it is not possible. I see that Tidal supports Serato DJ and Rekordbox. Couldn't it be a good idea to offer this with Spotify as well? I think You would get more users.

If Tidal can do this, I would say that Spotify can too.
