[All Platforms] Light Mode option

Hi,

The new white text on black design physically hurts my eyes and gives very bad ghosting (i.e. persistent image like those in optical illusions that make you stare at particular color combinations and then look away). I know I'm not the only one with this issue because I've researched it in the past. Without an option to switch back to the old design (White background/black text), I'll need to delete my Spotify account and find another service. Please add an option to switch between the two (because I know many prefer black backgrounds). Myself and a host of others, however, cannot use these color combinations. Please let me know if there is a work-around; it would be much appreciated. It's basically unusable to me in it's current state.

Hey folks,

This idea has been moved to a wrong place in the forum but is now back in its place.

We're keeping the status of Not Right Now as we still don't have any immediate plans to implement this, however, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status if we have any news to share.

Thanks!

Currently i am in the process of deciding which service to choose. After discovering that rdio doesn't contain many stuff i've founded in the database of the other services now remain three: spotify, wimp, xboxmusic. All of them have pros and cons. But spotify's ui is the baddest by far. And i don't mean only the new black design: i love a white one more but could live with a black one too if i have to.

The fact is that the UI didn't change too much in the sense of layout, still you have same design priciples: a huge list of places on the left side. Why dont you use something like tabs for 1) Browsing/Discovering 2) My Music (Collected stuff and playlists) and 3) Apps?

Furthermore: The Thumbnails are incredibly great and are wasting so much place. I prefer too se more albums at my screen

And one annoying thing: Spotify's designer team seems to love lists! Why the locally stored files are just a simple monster-list? Why isn't it possible to browse the albums of a saved artist? Why don't you take a look into wimp or rdio to be influenced how good that can be solved?

Last but not least: why the heck you still keeping the itunes style of displaying album art of playing art? It just cuts the left list where we have to choose our content. The list anway (seee first claiming) is large anyway and has to be scrolled down and up and down and up ....

It seems to me that actually the UX-Team is bad. Can't you hire other people, take a look into wimp or radio, and create something new and good? You can't tell me that this would overstrain you, or would it?

I don't consider myself to be ancient, but the new setup is really difficult to see and use. I've been a user of spotify for years., and found it a terrific way to listen to old/new music. However, the new layout is off-putting straight away. I found that it's really difficult to navigate, especially as the 'old' system was so intuitive. This just leaves me cold & I've actually gone back to Windows Media Player because I can find what I want, quickly. This limits musical availability, but it's bright , quick and intuitive. Unless Spotify changes, I shall be looking for alternatives. I've recommended Spotify to whoever would listen. Now, I'm not so sure.

Just signed up for Spotify and I took have a problem with the visual UI.

Is there really no way for users to customize the colour scheme? If not, this is ridiculous.

Many people (as we get older I suspect!) can't process well a screen that's white on a black background.

There's a reason most websites use a white background - it's proven to be the most easily readable.

Even Spotify's own community page here uses a light background! So why force users of the app to have a dark background?

This isn't just a matter of taste, for many of us it is an accessibility issue - we just can't use a dark background for extended periods of time.

Not trying to dictate my needs/tastes to others, just give each user the ability to customize their interface!

Haven't signed up for the Premium service and probably won't as long as this accessibility impairment remains.

When will this be changed to a more usable look? It has been months now since this horrible white on black look arrived.

I cannot use Spotify at all now. I guess it will take years to fix, if it will be fixed at all. Looking at how the Spotify devs have "fixed" things the community have shouted about in the past I don't have high hopes of using this program anymore.

Spotify has from the beginning shown that they care NOTHING about the wishes of its paying customers.

I have a feeling the devs are a bunch of geeks with hugely inflated egos and no sense of style or practicallity.

DEVS: Why do you think black web pages with white text is just about non-existent?

And how often do you see web pages that needs to hold lots of info having huge fonts and double spacing???

I still get updates on this thread via e-mail and just so people know, giving impaired and visually sensitive users at the very least an inverted color option is as simple as changing a few lines of code. They could have had this done a few weeks after people started reporting issues. Basically what spotify is saying by "not right now" and not giving users any good reason as to why is because there is no good reason. The hundreds of users complaining and even the thousands of users that are experiencing the same issue that haven't posted here just aren't enough of a "loss" for them to have incentive to do anything about it.

Simply put, they don't give a darn. Having a program that "looks" different than the other players out their is more important to them then giving the few of us that need it the option to change it. Branding is more important than accessibility.

This is like asking a restaurant why they don't have a wheelchair ramp and them answering you with "we don't have enough customers who use wheelchairs to have them," except it would take 500 times more work to build a ramp then it would take for them to change a few lines of code.

So Spotify doesn't care about people that can't read white-on-black.

I managed to transfer my playlists to a competitor program and I just cancelled my Premium.

It was very unpleasant experience to see how Spotify responded in this matter, I don't think i will ever come back.

Please, please, pretty please! While some elements of new design are very good, the color scheme is way off-base.

mugma

Please fix!

The new colour scheme is really a strain on my eyes, the old styles looked great and I don't know why you decided to replace it.

Dark grey text on black background is just plain daft.

Urban_Achiever

Agreed. I feel more and more depressed just by flipping thru my songs.

Can you imagine a black background with dark grey text?  horrible.  makes me not want to open spotify.

Frankly, this update from the developers : "2014-06-18

Hey everyone! Thanks for your feedback surrounding Spotify's new look. For now this idea is being marked as "Not Right Now"."

That update leaves me wondering why I continue to pay for a service that makes me feel like my eyes are bleeding. Not sure it's worth it. I guess it's time to check out the competition's display...

For the record, I hate the white text on black display on the desktop app AND on my mobile display.
