[Android] Remove the Shuffle / Play Button

Hi, I tried out your new design, which I have mixed feelings about, but nevermind that. The most annoying thing I come over in the new Spotify (for iPhone by the way) is the dumb, big, overlapping, unnecessary shuffle play button that pops up everywhere. Is this a bug or is this on purpose? Could at least had add an option for it. Also, it doesn't look streamlined at all with the current design. Did it even occur that not everyone wants a shuffle play button?

Is there a single user that has stated this suffle play button is good idea? I guess Spotify has made a desicion to serve stockholders needs over customers needs. I bet this is a good descision is good in the long run.

I’ve thought about this quite a lot over the past few YEARS!  As someone who works in software development I am somewhat perplexed by how it came about in the first place and why it can’t or won’t be made optional. Possible reasons include:

1. Someone high up had the idea and no one dares get rid of his/her baby. Rather an ugly baby I must say. 

2. The code base is such a mess that to remove or replace it would mean a massive overhaul. Initial bad design. 

3. It’s hiding some other fact, like the system doesn’t know the contents of a playlist so if you want continuous playback it just duplicates the list over and over rather than having a mechanism whereby it loops back round from the last song to the first song. 

4. It’s a social experiment and they’re trying to mess with our heads. 

5. They don’t care, can’t be arsed, don’t know how to fix it.

6. It’s in a part of the code they don’t own? Some third party stuff? 

7. They perversely want us to go to a competitor product. 

What could it be?

Hi Will,

I like your theories. My own is that there is some business reason... Maybe
people tend to listen longer on shuffle than regular play? It is baffling.
But it no longer concerns me. I moved to Google music long ago because of
this. But I am curious to know why they're so stubborn on this point. Good

Could you please explain your reasoning behind a SHUFFLE vs. a PLAY button. No serious music lover would want to listen to a CD in a sequence other than the one intended by the artist. Therefore PLAY should be the default - and not SHUFFLE. You choice is terribly annoying to me. I beg you to explain.

I'm also annoyed by the SHUFFLE button. As premium user my default action would be PLAY and not SHUFFLE. To me it's obvious that SHUFFLE is the default "play mode" for non premium users. But then why would this keep beeing that way when you switch to premium?

So, in my opinion, it would be best to have at least a way to set the default to play instead of shuffle.

As a premium user I don't want to see the shuffle button at least not nearly that big. A (smaller) "play all" button might make sense.

Given Spotify's contempt for both users (by ignoring our plea) & artists (by forcing us to shuffle rather than play) i won't be renewing my premium subscription - simple.

Interestingly at https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Remove-Reduce-Shuffle-Button-on-Mobile-for-Premium-Users... Spotify staff marked a fix for this issue as "good idea". It does not really seem like a lot of thought goes into how feedback and suggestions from this forum are handled...

Couldn't agree more. To have shuffle as the default option is extremely irritating. Make this a "Play" button and use the mode I used last.

It is extremely annoying that shuffle play is the default mode, especially when one is listening to a much-loved album.  Why is this the case?  What possible upside is there to default shuffle?  I don't get it.
