[Android] swipe down current playing song view instead of tapping the arrow

On iOS you can swipe down the view where the currently playing song is shown. I've also tested YT Music, Deezer and Amazon Music apps on Android. All of them implemented the same behaviour. Only Spotify on Android is not able to let the user swipe away the currently palying song view. Instead I have to tap on the arrow on the top left end of the screen. In a world full of gestures and much too large smartphone displays, that is inacceptable!

This is one of the main reasons I don't use Spotify. Fix this and I might return!

As an iOS user, I’m shocked they don’t include this on Android. Upvoted because it seems like common sense 🤔

As a workaround, you can just use the back button, which is much more reachable!

Seems this has been suggested multiple times since before 2019. Don't think it's coming to android.

Why is it so hard for spotify to implement these extremely basic and nobrainer features? Especially since it's already implemented on iOS makes it even weirder.

Ludwig2345

Just use the Android back button or back gesture.

You should never need to use any arrow back in apps when its already integrated into the operating system.

I actually prefer having no swipe down.

Absolutely great idea, try testing the Poweramp app on Android. It has one of the greatest UI feelings ever. Navigating by swipe motions makes me find my songs incredibly fast.

Looks like this "feature" has been implemented on Android now.

If find this idea questionable from the beginning. Do we really need a swipe function to close the now playing view?

The problem is rather that the existing close is placed wrongly. Since you open the now playing view at the bottom of the screen, the close button should be there too.

spotify has however managed to fail badly (again) when implementing the feature.

If I swipe up/right/left just a little and then lift my finger, it will stay on the now playing view.

If I swipe down 0.1 millimeter and lift my finger, it will close the view.

It appears that you only have to touch the screen briefly to make**bleep** close the view.

There is no marginal as there is in the other directions.

Once in a while when you only could swipe left/right, it was possible to use the app in the car. You could change song without looking at the phone. This is no longer possible.

I suggests that spotify correct this failure.

It has been over two years since I first expressed I felt the need for this feature to be implemented. It finally was implemented which is cool, kinda wild it took two years though. It's kinda bad though. if you swipe down in the now playing screen and lift your finger the now playing screen will go away.(maybe a mistake gesture or I decide I don't want to have the now playing screen up). Another issue is that there's a weird delay in the closing of the now playing menu, with a weird opacity type transition.

Honestly just discouraged every time I read these forums... then the updates happen and you're disappointed again because it wasn't tested properly or something and you just need to wait the same amount of time again for them to even attempt fixing what they just tried to fix/improve.

It would help if these large companies were more interactive, open & honest with their processes & choices... but I doubt that will ever happen.

Plus the longer they take on features and then readjusting the same feature over and over again they get to say "hey, we're constantly 'improving' the app" whether anything substantial happens or doesn't.

But that's why I haven't visited here in months. It's draining & repetitive.
