[Car Thing][Developer] SDK for Spotify Car Thing

Hi Team,

Car thing is very nice piece of hardware, specially the controls. I am sad to see it going away. I want to ask the team to release an SDK for it, so the homebrew developers can keep it alive for longer. Please consider it before killing the device support.

Thanks

Hey! Looks like your idea is growing up fast and it's amazing! We are going to change its status to 'Good Suggestion' now and we hope it continues being supported by more and more users.
Thanks again for your suggestion. We really appreciate it 🙂

Are you trying to win a contest in irresponsibility here Spotify? The solution to this is quite simple and comes at little to no cost yet you still refuse.

I know that in the grand scheme of things the negative feedback you are currently facing will be forgotten and it will make little difference. Which is what you are counting on. However it sets a precedent for how Spotify conducts it's business especially in regard to their customers. If you actually follow through with this nonsense I think I'll take my business elsewhere, as will many from the looks of it.

I alluded to the possibility that these devices might become ewaste in my comment on this thread two years ago and I find it extremely disappointing that you are about to prove me correct.

I would love for my Car Thing to not end up as e-waste for no reason. Please open source the code so we can all continue to use our devices and not contribute to unnecessary e-waste.

Following the news of the Car Thing being discontinued, I have seen some people suggest making the software/device open-source so that the community can continue supporting it once it has been officially taken offline.

It would be great if this idea could be explored/supported, as I'm sure many people with Car Things would like to continue using them for as long as they can, myself included.

Is there really no way for them to pivot to a multimedia control device. I really like this thing. It's nice to use if they just change it just a bit. They have a decent product.
