If i hate a song, then I don't want to hear it ever again. All of us run into this on an hourly basis. Every single day. Why in the world cant we dislike (or thumb down) a song to remove it from existence? Why do you torture us by playing songs we don't want to hear?

There is a "hide" option (only on mobile), and its playlist specific. The desktop version doesn't even have this somewhat-useless feature.

So I vote for a universal dislike button. No playlist limitations. No desktop vs mobile limitations. No buttons hidden in submenus. Just a simple, easily accessible button that can eliminate our headaches once and for all.

A subscriber should also be able to remove and block offensive or aggravating podcasts.  Some folks will like some things and others not.  That is natural.  So allow a little flexibility.  Amazon, Netflix, Prime, and other media companies do.  I hate all political podcasts and yet Spotify puts them on my home screen at the top and I have to scroll past them to get to the music. It is not always easy or convenient to do so -- like when I am driving.  This is good business and a nice thing to do.  Please do it.

It's interesting that some of the suggestions here only need under 70 votes to receive a "good suggestion" mark. Seems like this is not a preferable suggestion for Spotify developers.

Yes. if I don't want to hear a specific song ever again (but Spotify keeps playing it outside of my personal playlists or as suggestions), I want to be able to block that song permanently. I'm not going to enjoy 50 by Odd Future no matter how many times I hear it. I like some other Odd Future songs and I like a lot of solo music from members of Odd Future (like Tyler, The Creator and Earl Sweatshirt) so maybe that's where the algorithm is getting confused but I'd like to just be able to put 50 (and many other songs) to rest for my personal listening with a Block Song feature.

There needs to be a 'don't ever play this again' button. It's frustrating having to fast forward through the same songs again and again. Learning what you hate is just as important as learning what you like so the algorithm only really has half the picture of your music preference without this feature. It's too hard to have to manually go into each artist that you hate to say 'don't play artist'. It would be easier if there's a like and hate button for each song.

It would also be useful to be able to specify what genres to never play. I hate R&B but because it's so popular I'm constantly fast forwarding through such songs in my recommends.

Please please please add this feature. It's nonsensical to not include a dislike otherwise it won't really enable proper refinement of your taste profile.

oh, so it seems like the "dislike button" you're describing would be more of a block button? sounds great, and it could be used for artists, songs, albums, genres, podcasts, authors, and even ads. especially because in this one ad, the guy's voice is so annoying i just want to close spotify and just sit in silence.

...anyway great suggestion,

MrPizza

There is technically a "block artist" feature on mobile. I'm able to click "don't play this artist" (under ... menu) when visiting an artist's page. The feature blocks me front listening to any song from that artists even if they're already on one of my playlists.

This is a really good feature, not sure if it's easy to implement but definitely something that would be great

Context:
Users do not like all music/genres/books
Users are presented with items they do not want to hear and will skip over these these items, even regularly. It is correct that Spotify does not recognise skipped songs as disliked, however regular skipping is frustrating to users.

Problem:

Spotify introduced a 'hide' function - which is not accessible on desktop/ browser platforms..
It is ONLY accessible via 3 dots on IOSmobile app when you have the song expanded in view (not in playlist/queue view)

Problem Area impacted:
individual songs, albums, playlists, artists, music categories/genres, podcasts, audiobooks. etc

Benefit:

As a casual or perpetual Spotify listener

I want the ability to stamp items as disliked, ability to identify a disliked item and manage the dislikes items
So that I will never hear the disliked items within Spotify again unless I remove the dislike tag

Need: Users need the ability to

  • 'dislike' any item with a button
  • 'dislike' any item from either queue/playlist/expanded or collapsed song view,
  • 'dislike' any item from desktop, browser or mobile app
  • identify an item as disliked via an icon/indicator
  • review list of disliked items
  • remove 'dislike' from any item
  • AI to identify frequently skipped songs
    • prompt if the song is disliked
    • check to 'never ask again'

Benefit:

Happier listening users
Improved customisable listening experience

That's a great suggestion, "Not Interested" could be the name of the icon, - this feature could help to avoid and refine personalization.
