[All Platforms] Explicit Filter

Add a button that controls whether Explicit songs are played or not.  When it is off and you're listening to an album or playlist, the explicit songs are skipped. That way you can still listen to your favorite album or playlist when more impressionable members of the family (kids / parents) are around.

Hey folks!

It's great to hear music as the artist intended it to be heard, this means Spotify can sometimes include explicit content.

We recommend looking out for the EXPLICIT tag on any releases (E on the web player).
Note: Our explicit content tags are applied based on information we receive from rights-holders. This means we can’t guarantee all explicit content is marked as such.

It's also now possible to use the Explicit content filter on mobile and tablet devices (more devices coming soon!). Right now, the setting is only for the individual account and device. If you do apply the setting on your phone, it doesn't filter explicit content for the same account on the desktop app. It also doesn’t apply if you use Spotify Connect to play to another device. For more information on this, check out this support article.

We'll keep you up-to-date if there's anything else to share!

Thanks

I'm amazed at the lack of a explicit content filter, and that is the deciding factor in me not paying for a subscription. I work as the custodian at my church and I like to play music over my Bluetooth speaker, but I can't listen to any radio because the risk of profanity popping up at the wrong time, since I work during the day and people often walk by. I'm not offended by occasional swearing, but I simply can't listen to that in a family friendly environment.

YES, I have been looking for an option for this for years.  It should be so simple.  Why aren't they doing this????

While this is the 3rd most voted on idea (no clue how it's not #1), it is worth noting that it is by far most commented on.  In fact it has twice as many comments than the next closest idea.  That would lead one to believe that this is very important to the community and that they are pretty vocal about it.  I too think Spotify will do nothing about it if they have ignored it this long.

Spotify suggest that it is censorship and they are only the vehicle to deliver artists music. The radio is by far a greater platform for this and in the UK can't use explicit language before the watershed (9pm). If people want to tick a button to swap explicit content for radio edit, let them, give them the choice.

Absolutely! I Heart Radio has this feature, so Spotify needs to get on board! I would like to select "radio edit" for when my two little girls are in the room listening with me
