[Music] Import & Export Music

I love my playlists. I've added to my starred playlist for about two years now, and I always wonder what I'd do if my playlists were somehow wiped. So how about something that would rest my mind, the ability to back up your playlists to say, a text file containing all your songs, and then you can import your playlist if it somehow goes missing! This would be an ace feature as I see some people are having issues with duplicate accounts and their playlists being wiped.

This would also making sharing playlists between friends even easier!

TL;DR: Let us export our playlists to a text file, and then import our playlists whenever we like.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange.

We've discussed this idea and while it is interesting, we aren't able to prioritize it and don't have any immediate plans to implement this. We will let you know if this changes in the future.

If we do have any new information to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

Spotify itself doesn't do it, but there are a few 3rd party services that
do. Try:

I've used soundizz a lot. You can also convert Spotify to YouTube and other
platforms, too.
Done and done 👍

I'll have to check that out. It would be nice if Spotify could do it, but great that there's at least a way.

Thanks.

I'm disappointed that this is not a native feature of Spotify.  Adding this feature will make me more likely to continue as a Premium subscriber.

I've created a small tool to help me import text files to playlists.

It's really simple, you just need to login in the spotify paste a text with one track per line and it creates a playlist in your spotify with the tracks that the tool could find.

I didn't want to pay for a domain this is why is using this temp domain, it doesn't store any information and it just uses the API to create the playlist.

I started using Songshift. I signed up for the free 90 days of Apple Music and was able to get all 30 of my playlists from my Itunes moved to Spotify. There are some holes from artists or songs that Spotify doesn't have, but it worked really well and is super easy to use. It can be used with other platforms as well, not just Itunes/Apple Music.

In October 2018 this was a 'no right now' idea. What about May 2021?

Can we please have this feature added to Spotify?

Anything happens to spotify servers and millions of people will lose their playlists. As many have proved by writing their own, it should be no big deal creating a script that exports playlists in plain text or csv formats.

If you make it a premium feature I'm sure you'll gain some extra subscriptions too!

Is there any reason not to do it?

Hey everyone,

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange.

As this idea has been submitted quite a while ago and upon reviewing it again, we will be closing it. While we see how this can be useful, we don't plan to have this as a built-in feature for the foreseeable future.

Keep in mind that we already provide the option for third-party services to export your library via our API. That being said, we strongly recommend to always ensure that you're using trustworthy services and check their policies before granting them access to your account data. We always recommend withdrawing said access afterwards from your account settings. More info on how this is done can be found here.

If we do have any new information to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

Right, so I have this idea. What if Spotify had a playlist converter? Like you know how some people use Apple Music, others use Tidal and others use whatever. What if Spotify created a bot that converts Spotify user playlists to convert the playlist to another specific music platform (e.g. me sending a Spotify playlist into the playlist converter to turn that same playlist into maybe an Apple Muisc playlist and create a link for it so my friend who uses Apple Music can access my Spotify playlist but on Apple Music). Like this is a good idea right?

Hi,

I was wondering if it would be handy/useful to be able to get some sort of print-out (-document) of your music library (folders, playlists, etc)? This would ensure the preservation of all the songs and playlists (which took lots of hours of searching, digging and carefully storing) in the case of a crash or the - intended or not - deleting of your account . I would be very, very unhappy when - for any reason - I had to find out that everything is lost. These print-outs could then be saved at your own computer/laptop/mobile phone/harddrive/etc and be used to recreate the playlists/folders you once had. This would be a (longer than 90 days) permanent back-up, which you can also use outside of Spotify (in the - very unwanted and unhoped - case of the ceasing-to-exist of Spotify as a company, or something like that).

At this moment I have to take pictures or make a video of the playlists to achieve the same idea/goal described above. Maybe it would be much easier and handier to add this function/option to Spotify.

Cheers!

It'd be cool to select a playlist and be able to export all the song titles, artists, and perhaps albums as a google sheet or excel spreadsheet. Maybe even a txt document!
