[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

Please upvote this idea to garner attention for it.  Thank you Spotify and the Spotify community.  Let's get this implemented so it's ready for general iOS 14 release this September!

Pretty sure we have more than enough votes now.... Can we get some kind of updates @peter ??

Just picked up my new HomePod mini and they are great. Hopefully Spotify will pull their fingers out soon or I will be switching to Apple Music.

Hmm have to say after reading some reviews on the new HomePod Mini this really needs to happen sooner than later and was certainly the reason I held off on the original HomePod.

The reviews are glowing this is going to be a hot sell this Christmas.

I think I need to check in with Santa for at least a pair 🙂

Just got my Homepod mini and I have a 3 month trial with Apple Music, if Spotify is not working with the Homepod by then I'll do the switch.

Please give us an update on this!

Apple have released support for third party audio services, allowing options other than Apple Music to be the default audio service for Siri on Homepod!

The new UI for selecting a default siri audio device is in all iphones and ipads running the latest iOS14.2, in the home app under "Home > Home Settings > primary person"

There is even a "Use in Home" API that can be used by apps that want to encourage their users to set this support up. The latest Pandora app has a "Connect to Homepod" button that then launches the Apple "Use in Home" API.

The lack of this support from Apple was one of the issues Spotify reporting apple to the European Commission. Now Apple have added the features... why don't Spotify have something ready to go on this?

I am shocked that this is lingering in an "idea exchange" on the Spotify Community, with mods who don't know the difference between this and "Airplay 2".

It should be a business priority to get this functionality implemented before Homepod devices are sold over Christmas (and more people switch to Apple Music!). At the very least, an update is required on what's going on.

So this was flagged as a new idea in July after a very clear explanation to a Peter in June and it is an idea that, as I understand, no-one should have actually needed to have because Spotify had already taken issue with Apple, and it is an idea that works on phones and watches and Apple have allowed it to work, and it has a lot of votes ( we are not told how may it needs) and yet, we have nothing. I even wonder if Chat operatives actually do know about it but have been told not to admit to knowing.

Does anyone maybe have a contact in the media to turn this into a news story? I cannot see Spotify is paying much attention to the forum.

Seems rather hypocritical to sue Apple over "anti-competitive behavior" (an example of which would have been the HomePod being locked out of 3rd party streaming services), and not pounce on the opportunity to enable support once unlocked.

One would think they would at least announce intentions.

Yes. It is very strange. I am particularly frustrated by Spotify being silent on the community in the face of all this.

I wrote @peter to give a statement on this, but as expected, no answer. So sad...

In the meantime I took my 1 month Apple Music free trail to get used to it, since I do not expect that this situation is changed within the next month.
If at least Spotify would give a roadmap for this, I would think about to wait. But no reaction yet.
