[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

Guys, let’s keep the perspective here. I don’t feel threats of switching over are appropriate. I have had both services and believe me, while Apple Music has improved quite a bit, its recommendations can’t hold a candle to Spotify’s, and the less said about Siri “smarts” the better.

Let’s keep voting on this issue and comment on it in a civil maneer.

Spotify fundamentally doesn’t seem to know how to communicate to its users or prioritize features well. We now know they have been working on a “Stories” feature. Who wants that? I can come up with a dozen more useful features off the top of my head.

Spotify was the one whining that Apple didn’t give them the tools they need to integrate well. Now they have those tools and still can’t seem to have a decent turnaround time on them or even let users know that at least they are working on it. By doing so they give users who don’t care about recommendations alone little reason to stick around when Apple Music provides a compelling alternative.

Considering we already have Siri control of Spotify on our phones, it would be pretty straightforward to apply the same logic to HomePod.

Do better Spotify.

I have written to a HiFi mag who did a review of the Homepod and supplied a link to this forum topic.

I wrote to The Guardian and What HiFi but got no response.

Did anyone with Twitter competence get anything going?

I'm quite mad that stupid features like Spotify Stories that only exploits the FOMO of the users with no real value are added to the app while real big issues like Homepod Implementation, Apple Watch and TV support, lyrics and many others are ignored or delayed with no real explanation.

I've been using Spotify Premium for over a decade and I'm starting to feel tired of this situation. I really hope they change their roadmap and the way they communicate with their user base.

For some reason I cannot vote, but we need this!

I think to vote you maybe need to be logged in?

I'm finding the giving Kudos function a bit puzzling. I'm wondering if that works from an email link because I clicked that on your message before signing in and now I am signed if I click 'like' it removes the vote. So I guess the vote that is there must be from me.

Yes,  the purpose of this is to cut bluetoothing phones out of the equation and to optimise sound quality and ease of use.

If I want it to be hard I go and play a record. Which I also do but the circumstances differ.

"Spotify Staff will look into this idea once it reaches the necessary amount of votes."

What Spotify means to say, is:

"Spotify will continue to stall, pretending this feature doesn't exist, thinking this bolsters our complaints against Apple."

If Spotify would quickly implement new Apple APIs, it would bring so much more legitimacy to their complaints.

Hello if this isn't implemented soon I'll have to switch to Apple Music.

Not a threat.. just noting I'm likely to switch to Apple Music as well if this isn't added soon.

I'm already using apple music just for my homepod integration, if Spotify doesn't implement Apple API I'll have to cancel my spotify suscription because it is of no use.
