[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

Any updates on when we could expect this to be implemented? It’s been a few years…

Over 6 years by my count. Spotify just emailed me a badge to say I’ve been a member of the forum for 6 years. Only joined the forum for this reason!

Hey Spotify!

How many upvotes to this thread are needed for you to implement this? Just asking to know what is enough for you? 10K, 100K, 1M ? What is your acceptance criteria? We fail to understand what do you stand to lose if you implement this. Do you just want to be known as a music streaming platform which remains non-compliant and refuses to play nice with Apple? Does it massage your ego a bit ?

It baffles me that I can play Spotify through siri on my iPhone but not siri on homepod, and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone. Even after saying that you are looking into this 2 years ago, we see no progress neither any indication that you are actively working on it. At least you can implement this as a premium feature.

Do things which are good, for you and for the customer. This will nudge new customers to take the premium subscription. Otherwise you are just implying that you are okay losing customers over this petty matter.

PLEASE ADD THIS SPOTIFY IM BEGGING YOU IM ONLY COMMENTING IN THE HOPE YOU SEE THIS— MY DORM DOESNT ALLOW AIRPLAY (no connections between devices on a network as a security feature) SO I CANT USE SPOTIFY (THE ONLY MUSIC SERVICE I USE) ON THE HOMEPOD. I CANT GET RID OF THE HOMEPOD SO I MIGHT SWITCH TO SOMETHING THAT DOES SUPPORT IT… HELP

Can we get an update Team Spotify?

I am having rather significant discussions with my wife about leaving Spotify for Apple Music. She is reluctant to do so and so am I, but this is taking too long. Spotify premium should just support homepod integration, there is no more excuse not to enable this feature.

Agree with all the irate comments above. You have had more than enough time Spotify to sort this out. I have only just invested in my first smart speaker as my son started using Siri on my phone only to realise what he loves to do most (requesting songs on Spotify) can’t be done!
Extremely disappointed and also considering swapping to Apple Music.

People do say certain other aspects of Spotify are better than Apple. But
if Native Support is what you are after then it is very unlikely swapping
to Apple would go wrong for you. And there are aspects of Apple that I
gather are better, including when I last checked paying artists better.

Now YouTube freaking Music seems to be adding HomePod support... Are you just determined to be the worst at supporting your users Spotify? It doesn't matter how much you hate Apple, if someone is in the Apple ecosystem it's likely they are going to have HomePods in their home for one reason or another (mine is because for all it's flaws, Siri is still integrated with HomeKit, which is the best solution for non-cloud smart home control).

By not implementing this 9th most requested feature (and a year younger issue than anything else on the top 10 requested features list), you're only driving me and other Apple users further away from you.

Worst service ever. Leaving to Apple Music. Bye-bye
